Week 8 - Single digit passing attempts team vs. Old Man McGee

and regardless of the ability to ban me for any reason at any time, OO statement that he's not sure if he should root for this team because he wants Fox fired is absolutely asinine.

the Bears can make the playoffs this year, but they cannot get there by butt-hugging early leads like Fox has done throughout his career. that doesn't mean that Fox has been unsuccessful where he's been, though. I'm rooting for the Bears to be successful, too.

eh...even i find myself struggling with hoping for 2005 type surprise finish vs looking promising but losing enough to get him fired, but i would obviously prefer the former if it fell into our lap.

and i hate hate hate hate hate fox (as a coach)

The saving grace of a John Fox saves his job scenario is he's old with past heart issues, so he's maybe still not in it for the long haul, and hopefully we still get a better coach with prime Trubisky.

Because of his age and health issues, I could easily see the Bears putting Fox out to pasture by offering him some cush consulting/FO role even if the team finishes slightly above .500. Anything below that and I don't see any risk of keeping him on either.

Or maybe some lowball two year extension offer where Fox gets the hint and "retires"?

it is fair to wonder that, but i still don't expect this watson thing to last. he's made a lot of dangerous throws that he's gotten lucky with, hasn't faced very good pass defenses, and, at least in the kc game, piled up numbers in garbage time.

/watson rant

i'm fully ready to look like an idiot on this but i'm not giving up yet.

i should probably add that i'm heavily biased w/watson bc i tend to always root against winnability guys, especially when it's people touting college winnability (i.e. the tebow supporters early on).

if people say "he just knows how to win" about a player, i probably (unfairly) don't like that player

but watson has played legitimately well so far.

yeah, Watson's played well because his head coach is a offensive genius/QB guru and has changed the offense to fit his athletic college QB. I'm still not convinced he'll do well long-term, but maybe it will just be an indefinite arrangement that no one can figure out how to stop, who knows?

Trubisky is still the guy with the highest aptitude for reading defenses, making accurate throws, and being able to escape danger while playing in a legitimate offense, which we don't have.

this is conveniently timed

There are four big numbers that tell the story to this point:

Fourth-highest percentage of negatively graded throws

Ninth-highest percentage of turnover-worthy plays

Lowest drop rate in the league by receivers, only two drops

Charged with four sacks, tied for seventh among quarterbacks

Watson is simply missing too many throws, as evidenced by an adjusted completion percentage of 66.1 percent that ranks 33rd out of 34 qualifiers. His completion percentage of 61.5 percent ranks 24th in the league, and that’s aided by his having only two drops all season. The four sacks charged to Watson (as opposed to blockers) were made even worse by two fumbles due to poor ball security, but those plays do not show up in his stats and they’re rarely separated out in other metrics.

Fox has been fired before after a great season with a playoff appearance.

nice find. definitely supports the idea that Watson was a guy that created sacks for himself, as well. the dude has a tendency to escape the pocket too quickly and run right past d-linemen who throw off their blocks and take him down.

I don’t know how “good” he actually is but I remember him having some good games last year for my fantasy team when Allen, Gates, etc were all out and he was Rivers only really target

I wouldn't want to be an (looks up giraffe's diet on wikipedia) Acacia leaves or shoots in Halas Hall right about now.

+3 years age

+ 5 neck inches

they just need to replace Meredith for like half a season. and everyone's got a neck.

We actually plan to throw the football?

No but there's always the chance Mitch is hit behind the line of scrimmage and the ball travels downfield 10 yards or something

This is the guy I was suggesting the Bears go after when White got hurt. He filled in nicely for the Chargers last year when Keenan Allen was lost for the season. He's a big target, can create separation and he works special teams. He's had a bad hamstring to start the year, but he should be good to go soon. He was behind Benjamin, Allen, Tyrell Williams and the rookie Michael Williams on the Chargers depth chart, and i'd say probably best available for a back end draft pick. Inman and Gentry give Trubisky two big targets (to go with the TE's and Wright in the slot and speedy Cohen out of the backfield. Add the ability to run and a powerful running attack, I think the Bears have a chance to win this game even with a drop off defensively because of the talent of Brees and his offense.
