if the bears somehow manage to win the next two games going into the bye, carolina and NO (they obviously will win next week and lose to new orleans as they always seem to when they've had a chance of pulling to .500 the past few years), is there any WR out there who might be available just to have some degree of competency at the position? all i'm really asking is for someone who doesn't belong on a practice squad...

Brandon Marshall. No that won't happen, but he'll probably end up being one of the few trade deadline rumor candidates.

Isn't he out for the year?

Oh I knew he got hurt, but didn't realize he was out for the whole year. Nevermind.

a lot can be said about rhythm. in college, Trubisky was used to throwing a lot, or having the option to throw a lot. the way UNC would move down the field would be to pass it, either short or long. they used the tunnel or bubble screen a lot, they used that left-side sprint out a lot as well.

much of him not seeing them open is due to the fact that he might be past them in his progression or not even there, yet. let's not pretend this is everyone go out for a pass, he looks at everyone all at once and decides who is more open. he's got to see the receiver either about to come open or just after coming open in order for it to be effective. Sure, Gentry looks wide open down the sidelines, but if he's not the primary read, then he's got o wait until Mitch gets to him. Mitch may have looked at him, but that safety is closing.

Gentry getting/being open on those printouts gives cause for hope going forward. If they can can get one guy (hopefully Gentry) on the current roster with separation ability, coming into next season with Meredith, Wright and Gentry along with Kevin White and a qualify FA signing, they should be able to turn a weakness into a strength without wasting a draft pick early. I'd like to see the first two picks be on each side of the line if there is a impact player to be taken. I'd like to see where this running game would be with a respectable passing attack.

IDK how drafting a WR early = "wasting a draft pick". This WR group isn't as close as you make it out to be. Gentry still hasn't shown much, and he was a UDFA and yo-yoed back and forth to the practice squad without the other 31 teams claiming him for a reason. Meredith was also a UDFA, who has 1 year of production. Wright is barely serviceable. White is a non-factor who can't be counted on. I'm fine with Meredith being counted on if his recovery seems to be going well by the start of the 2018 league season. But even if he was healthy right now, the Bears would probably still need to get a WR better than him next year. Ideally, Meredith is a #2 WR. Gentry shouldn't be given up on, but he should be a #4 or 5. Wright is OK, but he's a FA after the year, and can easily be upgraded as I don't want to reward mediocrity. White should be in a position similar to Fuller before the season. Gotta fight his way onto the roster (probably makes it because of his $$$ + potential), but needs to perform to get on the field.

FA

Meredith

Draft pick

White

Gentry/McBride/maybe Wright/Bellamy/late pick all fight it out for the last 1-2 spots.

This is an easy interception

It's not an easy one, but reasonable for a qb to see it as a risk.

Maybe. It's clear the Bears are coaching him not to make any mistakes and to err on the side of caution. Is this the right way to develop a QB though? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He probably could have fired it in there to complete it, but Gentry would have taken a hit from the other LB in coverage and the safety would have been barreling down on him as well. Would have taken a pretty good (not perfect) throw to get it past the 1st LB and not run the WR into the 2nd LB. But it's one Trubisky will probably be able (moreso willing) to make in the future.

Not going to get on him for it. But he also shouldn't be free from criticism. He obviously left some plays on the field by being conservative, and I know I'm not supposed to blame the coaching, but he's clearly been coached to be conservative after the INT vs. Minnesota.

PFF on Trubisky's second game

After a rocky debut, Trubisky executed the Bears’ conservative game plan extremely well, ultimately leading to an overtime victory. They kept it simple for him with a number of bootlegs and screens, and while his 8-for-16 passing line isn’t impressive, six of the eight incompletions where throwaways as Trubisky did a fine job of taking care of the ball. He had two big-time throws on the afternoon, the first a nice pass on the run for a touchdown after avoiding a quick pressure and the second #BTT set up the game-winning field goal as he maneuvered the pocket and put the ball in a perfect spot to complete the dig route. Overall a safe, but solid, second outing for Trubisky

Feels like their being a little kind on a few of those throwaways. That preseason accuracy we saw hasn't quite shown up.

I agree with your take on this. He seemed to throw several balls way high/long of his receivers. Maybe that was him trying too hard to put it where "only his guy could get it," but it could have just as easily been rushed throws.

Yea. Presumably with the talent level closing, he's not getting clean looks quick enough. Hopefully as he adjusts to making reads, he has time to set himself and fire off accurate throws just like against second stringers/college guys.
