Carl knows

i don't really care about bulletin board material or whatever but why would you even say that?

I love it, tbh, these guys don’t get phased. They’ve horsefeathers on the face of adversity. I’d rather see that than Carl all timid and looking scared. These guys are rolling tomorrow

Would it really be that shocking to start Scherzer? When Roark was announced they said he was available to pitch in todays game so he's probably in the game plan for tomorrow. Start him for as long as they want him to go and bullpen it from there.

It would be shocking if anyone smart was running the team. The numbers scream it’s so much smarter to start a guy like Roark or Gio tomorrow over an “ace” on any sort of short rest.

Yeah. Scherzer is throwing 3-4 innings tomorrow, whether he starts or not.

I can’t wait for that

I mean what happened offensively in the first 4 games means little, last year they were dead offensively for multi game stretches in all 3 rounds of the playoffs and turned it on in a snap.

However I don't get the confidence against Scherzer. I have no doubt he can go 4 shutout tomorrow.

Man. You guys are pretty darn confident for a team that's averaging 2 runs a game this series. An offense that has mustered a 3.07 ERA against pitchers not named Strasburg or Scherzer.

I'm not sure I'd classify myself as confident.

I do like that Hendricks is lined up. It's not like the Nationals have been tearing the cover off the ball either.

I like being on the road. Let the Nats deal with the Game 5 nerves in their own yard. Ideally the Cubs could get a couple early and let Kyle do his thing. I'm sure the crowd will be into it, but I just like this team hitting first and getting away from home.

As for the offense, I'll ignore the stats and just be a meathead and say they are due for a breakout. I'm not sure what to expect out of Scherzer or how much he will factor in. As for Gio/Roark, there is no reason this lineup shouldn't get to them. I am not saying they will, but whenever they are in the game the Cubs need to take advantage.

Scherzer hasn't given up a run on 2 days rest in 4.2 innings but has given up 4 runs in 3.2 innings on 3 days rest. The short rest appearances (seems to be 4) came in 2008 when he was a bullpen pitcher with the D'backs. As far as I can tell he's never made a short rest start in his career or appeared on short rest after throwing 100 pitches on a bad hamstring. 6H, 2HR, 5BB in total between the 4 appearances.

Yeah they could get shut down or whatever but a couple of reasons to be confident:

1) I trust Kyle Hendricks to be just as dominant as anyone the Nats can throw at the Cubs

2) seriously Scherzer on 2 days rest coming off an injury? Even if he starts out strong there is a good chance his stuff doesn't last all that long

3) this team has come back from the dead a billion times

Anything can happen in game 5. I'll take the team that's done it before and is relying on pitchers who are rested

It the Cubs hitters couldn't do anything against Scherzer when he couldn't get his fastball within a foot of the strike zone, I don't think they'll suddenly pound him on short rest.
