This is actually perhaps going to be accurate. The vaunted Brewers have done that thing this season where they never were worse than two games above .500. Now at like seven games over, they are one 10 out of 14 stretch from locking this up.

The Brewers aren't anywhere close to locking anything up.

Yeah, yeah. I know. Steamers projections. They are garbage. We will win by 10 games and be resting starters in the last week.

But just in case you're wrong, this is another possibility.

It really has nothing to do with any projections or anything. It's the simple fact that is 4.5 games with half the season to go.

But, sure, if they take off and play like the 2015 Cubs, with Matt Garza, Junior Guerra, Zach Davies, and Brent Suter making 80% of their starts, then they could run away with the division.

I just don't like as we have continued this convo for the past month that the number of games back keeps going in the wrong direction. This isn't the way either of us wanted it to work.

Put a bet on the Brewers +300 to win the Central during that game so when the Cubs go on a run starting tomorrow, you can thank me Edited by FlyTheW

I will say that in the short term, the Cubs could make things fun by sweeping the Pirates without having to face Cole and also have the Yankees sweep the vaunted Brewers. I think the Yankees aren't playing well right now, but that would be cool.

In the last month (since June 7th), the Cubs have had exactly 1 winning streak of 2+ games.

Yeah, was hoping for a better than three-game winning streak during that 13 straight stretch against teams under .500, but it just didn't happen.

Sometimes good teams have a bad season. It happens.

It does. However this team is comprised of 27 and under guys who have really small samples still. This isn't like a vet-laden team we can reasonably expect to bounce back next year. We only truly know that we can expect Bryzzo to be excellent. The rest of the guys still have a ton of work to do to earn that.

Bottom line is we need a [expletive] to go right if we're counting on an offense with 2 above average hitters.

They suck right now and hell they might suck all year but the "lost season" comments still horsefeathering irk me for some reason. They're a week and a half of good baseball from being back in first. Hopefully over the all star break the herd of fans thins some more, because I can't imagine thinking a season is over and continuing to watch while annoying everyone else around me.

Between the 2nd half of 2015 and 2016 we got spoiled with the lack of adversity, because writing off the season is more than silly. Last year at this point the Dodgers were 6.5 games out of first, and they clinched their division a week early.

They were also 48-39 on July 6th of last year.

it's just so gd hard to reign in expectations after we reached the peak fan experience that was the last 2 years. the last 3 months have been this slow crawl of minor bummers that have added up to this general sadness surrounding cubs baseball, and yet this season is still one of the better cubs performances of my lifetime.

my optimistic view is that when we're good again (and even if it doesn't happen during this season, the cubs are almost certainly going to be good again soon), this stretch will only make it more fun that #weareactually back.

At the very least I'm thankful that we are still only three out in the loss column despite horribly underachieving. Because this same exact team would be nine games out in the NL East and 14 in the NL West, and in those instances we'd all have to pretty much concede the season is over.

yeah it kind of feels like it's over for this year

First time I've really thought that it was unlikely the Cubs would be in the playoffs. Up until now it was they'll get it together eventually, but we're at a point where we pretty much are what we are unless something big happens.
