How does Eddie Butler have a 3.47 ERA?

I was just about to ask if his advanced stats suggested he was actually pitching well and not continuing to get lucky because he's only allowed 1 ER in his past 12 innings.

But now he will give up a 3 run inning and it will be your fault (and a little mine)

His FIP is like 4.2, which is solid. But that's only because he hasn't been giving up homers. And that's a complete aberration since everyone gives up homers now. And he's given up a ton of long flys to the wall.

Basically, he's pitched pretty well, even if a little worse than his results indicate. But it's not likely to continue, because he actually sucks.

Or just have him implode to make me look stupid. I can't honestly say I'm as tied in to the aims of the universe as I suggested in that post

Nah, he's got this. Remember, we're in the Upside Down now.

This team is a joke.

Sucks that our 7th starter couldn't hold one of the better offenses in the league down (yes I know we've had more issues that Butler lately)

If the Cubs are committed to buying, there is a ton of value in doing so early. Not going to go on that run with both Butler and Lackey (and Arrieta, but he's not going anywhere) in the rotation.

They should commit to selling, Wade Davis for a top 40 prospect sounds pretty good right about now.

He's also partially protected by only going about 60 pitches/twice through the order.

Eh, selling ain't happening in this division. I think it's more of a matter of buying vs standing pat and not giving up future pieces. Though I'm assuming the starting pitcher would be around for more than this year, so I still think it makes sense to buy. And it needs to be very soon.

Yeah, trade now. We can't do this Butler/Lackey horsefeathers much longer. They both need to go ASAP.

Honestly, we've got 3 starting pitchers. Lester, Hendricks, and Montgomery. If the rest of the team is firing, Arrieta can stay in it too. But, Lackey and Butler aren't 5th starters on a playoff team.

We need to get a guy quick. And if we do grab a cost controlled guy, then I'd still try to add some sort of rental depth guy too over July.

And if you think about it, with Lester/New Guy/Hendricks getting a bulk of the starting pitcher innings in the playoffs with Koji/Carl/Wade getting the bulk of the pen innings and Monty either starting or relieving depending on how things go, that's still REALLY good. They just need to get there and it becomes less likely the more you wait.
