Jon Jay has looked pretty good, guys. Maybe he's playing just enough/getting the right matchups but him and Almora should be playing more at the expense of Javy. Let Javy come in, in the late innings for defense once we build leads.

Yeah, Baez needs to be the defensive sub guy for a while.

Guess I won't be needing this.

Yep. I haven't given up faith in Javy. But he shouldn't be playing right now. He definitely shouldn't be facing any reliever with a fastball/slider repertoire when we are narrowly losing late in a game. And he absolutely shouldn't be taking playing time away from those two (mainly Almora).

The Almora/Jay combo works great. And Jay seems like he can fill just about any role. He'll give you a good AB. He can come off the bench and hit. He can play wherever you need him in the outfield. I want Albert getting a ton of playing time, though. Let's see what he's got. I have a feeling he's going to prove to be a really valuable player.

Javy... you're gonna have to prove it. You still have skills we can use in a more limited role. I mean, he's like the perfect defensive replacement, especially considering Zobrist would be in the lineup. And he can fill in all over. But if he wants to play as much as he did last year, then he's going to have to improve at the plate and earn it again.

2nd game in a row that I tuned out before a big comeback that I kinda-sorta expected. As long as I can rememberer, Brewer Ball has been to score a horsefeathers-ton of runs and give up a horsefeathers-ton and two. We just haven't been good enough to capitalize until the past few years.

That Eric Thames is looking to be one heck of a score for them, but time will tell if he's more Cecil Fielder or Bryan LaHair.

Yeah, this. This bad start isn't even a full April but he looks terrible right now so my long term view isn't too dampened but he's looking pretty rough. So I'm with Almora pushing Javy to a defensive replacement and matchup/rest guy until he hits his way into the lineup. Those Ks today were vintage 2014 shut your eyes and swing hard.

Not to be a horsefeather, but I'm curious to see how Thames' drug test they administered the other day turns out. It's no coincidence that he was "randomly" tested the other day, MLB officials have eyes and brains too. If he's clean then more power to him for his great start and I apologize for even inferring he wasn't on the level.

I like what Riz said about the Marte stuff. You could tell he just wanted to go off but held his tongue, ending it by saying players need to be tested more often.

Keep in mind also that he could pass a test and still be juicing. I know he's always been big, but that dude and his forearms are a late 1990s build.

I really felt like the offseason was the time to maximize on his value. That'd be a hard sell to the fans who absolutely love him, but his game has such glaring weaknesses that its difficult to count on him in the lineup. Obviously, the offense has struggled quite a bit offensively so far, but the two other questionable areas, CF and RF, have exceeded those expectations. Its difficult to trade a budding young star in the middle of the season, but if Javy has a hot month or two with good numbers, while still showing some of those things that make it difficult to rely on him long term offensively, they have to consider dealing him. Nobody is saying Happ is going to be a sure thing, but Javy's a cheap and proven commodity in baseball that should carry a lot of value to address issues this team will have going forward after this season.

I listened to the 9th inning on the radio on my drive home. When Addison had the 2-0 count, Pat said something along the lines of "With a 2-0 count on Russell, and 1st base open, the almost have to walk him, right?" And not 2 seconds later, you hear the crack of the bat and Pat yelling his HR call.

Coomer wonders why they don't just walk Addison after falling behind him 2-0 and then boom. Guess that makes Coomer smarter than Craig Counsell?
