WTF?????

It really becomes clear how little I know about he NBA when things like this happen and I literally have no idea what part is the WTF.

Because the Lakers would be insane to pull the trigger.

The idiotic contracts of last offseason are really biting the Lakers in the ass right now. Had no reason giving Mozgov and Deng the contracts they did and now to offer maxes next offseason they need to attach real assets to get little back just to dump them. I really wanted to see Lonzo and Russell play together in the backcourt. horsefeathering idiot FO.

They just gave Mosgov a huge deal last year, now they're trading a 2nd overall pick with him, for an expiring. I know Russell has warts, but there had to be an easier way to get cap space than THAT. Russell can still be extremely good.

Is Vincent Goodwill remotely reliable? This is hard to believe both in offer and rejection.

Personally, I don't think any of the Bulls guys are reliable. I have a hard time thinking that didn't get leaked from the Celtics side.....But who knows? Ainge may be playing with our guys, just for fun. I'm legitimately thinking this is like Theo trying to trade with Dave Stewart.

On the plus side, this takes a trade for Paul George off the table. They're not trading the pick or Ingram and Indy would want one of those in a deal.

I agree with you though. Bad deals led to this trade having to be made. I wanted to see a Ball-Russell backcourt also. Will be interesting to see if they deal Lopez before the season or if they wait until midseason. No chance he ends the year on the roster.

I think Lopez is absolutely going to end the season on the roster for the reason in your tweet at the end. They want his expiring salary to open up that large amount of cap space next year. The only way he doesn't is if they find somebody who will give them other expiring salaries and a pick for him.

I assume that's exactly what will happen. They'll trade him for whatever the best offer is involving either just picks or another expiring and a pick.

Possibly, but I think that's a very small window in the next couple of weeks. After that, it's hard for teams to come up with 17+ million of expiring contacts they are happy to get rid of or have cap space to absorb part of Lopez's contract. The only teams that do after early July are typically tanking teams that won't want Lopez. Since the Lakers realistically can't take back any long-term salary in a deal like that to offset part of the money, it makes a deal extremely difficult.

Very happy with the Lakers draft tonight, I love Lonzo and Kuzma was a guy I liked as a late round pick along with Hart. Definitely guys that should be able to play right away.
