As long as the person running this is consistent, I'm cool with it. I loved Fred, but there were times when the "next thread has to be up by noon the next day" rule was ignored and the current GTS was kicked out at 9am.

I can try to keep up with it but I can tell you right now I won't be consistent with it, particularly nights/weekends.

I nominate Derwood for game thread police chief.

Derwood is still bitter about being banned from the game threads for being stupid about missing his game thread starts and then being a petulant child about it afterwards until...today it seems.

That noon rule is dumb. If you can't have the game thread up with plenty of time before the game itself, then pass it to the next person. It's not like it's a surprise when a game is going to be played.

No, but if you work at night and forget to start the new one before you go to bed, you shouldn't wake up and already have lost your place. There needs to be some reasonable time allowance

If you sleep late and know it's your turn then a reasonable time allowance is to not forget to start a new one before going to bed.

dude its just a thread, is it really a big deal if you don't get to create it in time and someone else starts it?

The only time it really matters is when tree or butters are creating it because they have magical game thread powers.

Again, these game times aren't surprises; if you know you're working late that night, then pass the torch.

I mean, I think a general rule of thumb for game threads is no later than 6 hours prior to game time, except in special cases where the next game is less than 6 hours after the prior game as in a double header. If the game thread isn't up by six hours prior, a designated spot starter creates the thread and the cycle moves forward.

Just pick a designated permanent spot starter, and everything works itself out.

Edit: without people being PM'd though, I can see this failing miserably.

I don't think any regular PMs were being sent out last year and it went fine.

Don't mind him, he assumes everything will fail miserably.

Right again - clearly I'm the only one with concerns over this issue.

Grouping yourself with Derwood is always a good idea

No, not a big deal.

I just think this is supposed to be fun, and as soon as you start skipping people and making deadlines it stops being fun

As soon as you go to post about a game and you can't because the thread isn't up yet, it stops being fun.

How about somebody just write a script for a bot account that automatically makes game threads 24 hours before game time.

Probably because people like to be creative in their game thread OPs.

the majority of those would be started before the previous game ended.

I'm OK with that.
