This will probably turn out like Jacob Turner but maybe it will turn out like Jake Arrieta.

Yeah, I was going to mention J. Turner, but I couldn't even bother to remember his name. I hope this turns out better than that acquisition...

Well, Butler's arm is still attached, so there's upside beyond Turner.

Like I said in another thread, I've seen some analysis here and there recently about how Rockies pitchers have been having a great deal of success in their next stops recently. Let's hope that trend continues.

Is there an article that's talked about this? Curious to read more.

Rather than a full length article, it's just been referenced in a couple of fangraphs pieces over the offseason. Can't remember which ones in particular, though.

Any players that you remember? I just went back 3 years and the only SP I could find was Nicasio.

They mentioned Friedrich, though his stats don't really look much better with SD.

Pomeranz was definitely highlighted. I think it went back far enough to include Hammel. But I don't remember whom else.

My goodness, just went back & read his scouting report from the 2014 BA Prospect Handbook. Definitely a guy worth taking a chance on....

Law said he was at least a 2. That's ridiculous praise.

Yeah, I would be very nervous praising a Colorado Rockies pitching prospect that highly. I know J. Gray has looked pretty good so far, but it seems like every young pitcher breaks down pitching at that altitude/in that organization. I remember being really high on LHP - J. Francis back in the day...

I'm still intrigued by Eddie Butler. I don't expect much from him, but considering what we gave up, a heck of a gamble. Fastball/Slider still seem to be there.

Honestly, ending up with Brett Anderson and Eddie Butler far exceeded my hopes of about a month ago. I thought we were going to have to wait until spring to get some more ... significant ... depth in. Again ... don't expect much from Butler, but it's a good roll of the dice for a guy who had some good action on the fastball.

there was another 25yo former top prospect with a run of total failure in previous MLB experience (5.84 ERA, 4.70 FIP)

then Theo took a flyer on him, and he's now best RP in baseball

I really like this. It's great that he has an option year left. I like the whole "former top prospect that is still pretty young" thing. And, mainly, there's the "him getting out of Coors" thing. I know his velocity is down and he sucked in the minors, too (mostly in Albuquerque, but still). But I would imagine pitching in Coors to be a daunting task. Who knows how that affected him mentally and physically? Let Bosio work his magic, and if it doesn't work, no biggie.
