I have to hand it to Reinsdorf, he knows how to handle the Chicago sportsfan. Wait until the other guys in town piss all over themselves and suddenly you don’t look so bad. Relatively speaking of course.

look at the bright side, at least people can stop giving that cat account any attention.

I mean at this point make up some fake inside source telling you that they are now out on Harper and move on. Tom pretty much left no wiggle room in his comments today, no "if we see a move that makes sense we have the resources to go after it". It's not happening

It's literally the only interesting thing happening, I must know what the end game is here (account deleted? my sources lied? ignore it? something elaborate I can't even think of?)

Now that I think about it, the comments about the Cubs potentially liking the FAs in 2020 better might be the truth. They may have decided in 2018 that they needed pitching, thought Harper/Machado would command too much this winter as an overcorrection to last offseason and/or for whatever reason weren't as high on them, so they spent the money earmarked for them on Yu, and then when some contracts like Zobrist come off the books after 2019 go after guys like Xander Boegarts, Arenado, Ozuna, Goldschmidt, etc.

Not saying I agree with the strategy, but it follows some level of logic at least.

Just trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense to me.

PTR is waiting for the new mayor to eliminate the amusement tax in 2020. :-k

If we win 95+ and a World Series this year I’m still going to be pissed at the Ricketts.

Hell, if they do that after signing Harper or Machado, I'm still going to be fed up with them. It sucks that these humps are going to attached to the franchise like a lamprey for a long, long time. It'll be like some kind of bizarro version of the Marlins' run.
