Nah, but this is as good a time as any to confess that I was the one who got mad at IMB for some dumb reason and tried to send him GOT spoilers at his work e-mail. I think he blamed Sully.

 

i'm no got watcher, so i could be wrong or i could be missing a joke, but didn't' that cause a huge blow up between them? lmao

He got pretty mad at me for making the "Sublime or Rockapella" poll, too, which was a spinoff from the Music thread, which also had some politics mixed in there. It wasn't all GOT related, but yeah, that was a thing.

So if we indulge this, the Padres make a lot of sense for Russell as a landing spot. The Indians and Red Sox are a little less clear considering they have both been rumored to be slashing payroll. Maybe Quintana and stuff for Kluber makes sense for the Indians, fill 2 holes for the price of one? Maybe the Cubs are poking around the JBJ rumors about his availability?

i mean, i'm not saying he's necessarily wrong, but he also is acting like he's the only one putting that idea out there. i've seen it all over cubs twitter/blogosphere.

I made it anonymous and wasn’t trying to pin it on anyone. Iirc, it was something that made me sound like a concerned newspaper reader of Oklahoma. I was surprised he blamed it on someone else, he seemed so sure.

I don't think it is breaking news that Harper would want to play for the Cubs. I think just about everyone has always figured it is more up to the Cubs than him. I don't think it will require the Cubs handing out the most money/years, but if they can get close enough, he will choose the Cubs. With the reporting of the Cubs' money situation, it isn't much of leap to think they would try to clear $20 million in payroll to make room for Harper and still be able to shop for other needs.

 

If Harper is willing to wait, then the Cubs are going to be smart and act poor. We have other needs to fill and moving people before a big signing is easier than after. I also don't think it is a great stretch that we will see a signing almost immediately after a big payroll clearing trade. Especially if it is Heyward or Chatwood. If the Cubs can't dump $20 million in payroll, they will have to get really creative. I should start a Cubs Captain Obvious twitter with this great insight!
