Is everyone scared off by his asking price or are the teams using the same strategy to try and lower his price?

My money is on option 2.

It probably isn't actual collusion, but this is what collusion would look like.

I don't think the "play disinterested" negotiating strategy is such a secret technique that collusion would be necessary.

it could only be collusion if one of the teams were to sign him well under market value while the others stood around and watched and somehow getting a kick-back, which won't happen

So the Yankees say they're out, and the Dodgers and Cubs both have news released that they may not have the money...

How peculiar.

I think it's a little bit of both. I'm sure there are many teams that realize giving Harper $400 million+ over 13-14 years is not financially prudent, but nobody is going to throw out there to Boras that we want him no matter what it's going to cost.

Real collusion would be that nobody signs him and he sits out the season (AKA Kapernick). This won't happen either.

Well, he's right that it would be one form of collusion. He's not right in the implication that his scenario is the *only* form of "real" collusion.

I do buy the Yankees as being out, though, as of now. Yes, they could make a Harper/Stanton/Judge configuration work (blue moon Harper CF, otherwise, rotate at DH and occasionally put Harper at 1st (I think he's the only one that's practiced some there)). Machado makes more sense, and Corbin is probably priority number 1. I'm not sure on the Cubs, but for some reason, I could see the Dodgers slow play it and be the "mystery" team type that pops up late. Somewhat weird, though that the White Sox are showing public interest and not those three (granted, not that weird, they have to "show" their fan base changes, or the potential for change),

Apparently Harper was spotted at the Blackhawks game last night or something?

I know there was the White Sox thing, but maybe Charles the Cat was right about him meeting with the Cubs this weekend, too.

I was at the Hawks game last night, as I was walking out I overheard some guys saying they think they saw Harper there. Didn't think anything of it at the time.

Strangely enough Jason Heyward was at the game last night as well according to Instagram (source: Twitter)

A bunch of the guys who I'm pretty sure don't live here year-year round were seemingly at the field this morning

There could be plenty of reasons, but a Bryce recruiting contingent is as reasonable an explanation as any.

Damn I was hoping that was Dan Pompeii. Not a Cubs reporter but at least connected with Chicago sports.

Maybe this guy is legit tho. I’ll take the news

The guy has 69 in his Twitter name. He’s GOT to be legit. And also fun to party with. I bet he beer bongs with the best of them.

But seriously, he has about 170 followers (even my dumb ass has almost double that) and his tweets are almost exclusively about the University of Iowa. He knows nothing.

Everyone has to start somewhere........

If this guy WAS a known sports reporter dude, then people here would just be rightly dragging him for just regurgitating a bunch of obvious assumptions as "news."

"The Cubs are trying to move things around to best make a contract work with Bryce Harper, who they obviously have been in touch with like every other team reported to be after top tier FA Bryce Harper...WHAT A SCOOP."
