I'm sure most have seen this already. But its a decent gauge on player prices, for when we inevitably start trying to predict signings and fitting them into the payroll.

Its also got a pretty decent list of relievers, so we can use it to piece things together that way.

Or, we can use this as a signings thread for guys not lucky enough to have been chosen by us.

I would be most super sad if SEXY DEXY ends up with the Cardinals

Same here and I'd really hope we'd pay that price to hold onto him too.

I think the Jansen price is a bit light too.

Dex to the Cardinals would be devastating.

Team with long drought finally wins the World Series and sees their beloved Centerfielder bolt to their arch rivals. Where have I seen that before?

The Boston Red Sox when Johnny Damon signed with the hated New York Yankees?

Jansen for 5/85 please and thank you no changing your mind he's ours and no one elses

Seriously. No takebacks.

I think they took the list down, as I couldn't find it on the app and this link doesn't work, but I was looking at it last night, and Brett Anderson's in the honorable mentions. Really surprised that he's only 28, but he could be one heck of a reclamation if healthy.

Huh, the link in the original post doesn't work this morn.

Yeah, they've taken it down for some reason. I'm guessing they're changing a few things? I'll make sure to update it when they put it back up.

In the meantime, here's a few other lists.

so 17M and the loss of a first round pick for a guy who is going to throw 65 innings. Yeah, not even remotely interested. I'd much rather the farm be used, outside of Eloy, to grab a young closer. Save the excessive spending for Otani or whoever else they need to fill the rotation in 2018.

So based on the declining monetary figures, signing Brett Anderson as a flyer for 6 mill or less IS interesting. I guess that'd be the upper end of what I'd spend on him, but in THIS market, I'll be surprised if he doesn't approach 10.

Depending on how our OF shakes out, Angel Pagan at 6 mill or less on a one year deal seems like a great value.

Drew Storen lost 2 MPH this past year, but he's still interesting. Mike Dunn is a cheap, but decent pen arm. Jerry Blevins is a decent option too. If those guys are only getting a year, I'd prefer them to the multi-year commitments its taking for the Brett Cecil's of the world.

Hmm... the link seems to work now.

They should take the link back down. That is such a horrible FA class. I don't know how many teams are looking for Closers, but I imagine Chapman and Jansen can basically name their price and someone will pay. Not a lot of other good options. Position player wise its very, very weak.

A year ago I felt the exact same way. After seeing the revolution in post-season reliever usage this year...I'm good with the investment.

Yeah, I think I've done an about face on paying for elite relievers. Don't really want to lose our 1st again, but I'd gladly do it for Jansen at that price.

These are not either/or propositions(paying a closer and getting a future FA SP), trade prices for good young closers are going to skyrocket like the FA costs, and the Cubs should be placing a higher value on the certainty that a Jansen or Chapman provide given their spot on the win curve and the fact that half their good relievers broke in September.

Yeah, I'm still not down with relievers being valued like this. Look no further than at the Yankees last year. But, we are awesome and we deserve the best at every position. And we've pretty much got everything else taken care of. And, as TT says about our win curve, relievers are much more valuable in the post-season. And that's where we'll be. So let's get that taken care of in the off-season this time. It's the one thing that we can do to make me feel much better about our chances in the post-season. So I'm all in for Jansen.

I think Chapman and Jansen are, and will be, worth every penny they get. WAR doesn't do these guys justice, as they pitch exclusively in high leverage situations, and the normal volatility of relievers doesn't apply to these guys; they'll just continue to be awesome. And I think we got a pretty good glimpse at how important elite bullpen arms are in the playoffs. I don't particularly care which one, but I need one of them to be a Cub.

Didn't we already go through a "Let's pay relievers $4mil per season to maybe be great"? There are a few guys worth the type of money that they're going to get but, depending on resources, spending a lot on non closers hasn't been that great of a bet before.

yeah, agreed. Re-sign Chapman just for the sake that you wouldn't have to give up a pick.
