I was just reading some SI article about the possible beginning of a Cubs dynasty, and this last sentence niggled me a bit:

"Will Nov. 2 be remembered as the first night of the Cubs’ dynasty?"

First off, I don't like to tempt the fates in that manner. Confidence is one thing, but I don't like to be premature. But more than that, I thought, "Now wait a minute, it really wasn't November 2nd. The game wasn't over until after midnight."

So really, all of yesterday's celebrating was the FIRST day. Today is only the second day of the post-curse/drought era.

Ya I've been trying to figure out whether to celebrate November 2nd or 3rd as the anniversary every year. I decided it's best to make Nov 2-4 a 3 day party just to be safe. :D

Good plan!

My whole perception of the world feels different now.

I have been in this happy mood for two days. I have really bad social anxiety that causes me to avoid people but for two days now it's been gone. Weird how a game can do that.

What are you guys talking about? The game ended at 11:48 pm CT which is the time zone said team is based in. You don't go by the time zone the game was played in.

and this thread needs to get to 108 so I'm going to keep posting.

It'll be weird next year when the clinching thread gets locked on the first page though.

Oh and niggled is a weird weird.

Too soon? Forgive me, but I just couldn't help myself.... Feel free to flame me if it's too early to discuss this.

2017 opening day line up:

Almora CF

Schwarber LF

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist 2B

Russell SS

Contreras C

Heyward RF

Lester P

Obviously I'm assuming Dexter won't be back and Heyward figures out how to hit again. Would the Cubs have the guts to regulate a 184 million dollar player to a bench role to insert Baez at 2nd and Zobrist in RF on a consistent basis?

Or this

This line up is much sexier and gives a lock down middle infield defense:

Almora CF

Schwarber LF

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist RF

Russell SS

Contreras C

Baez 2B

Lester P

Or this

If you want Baez at 2B badly enough and still play Heyward I suppose you could do something like this at Almora's expense but I'm at a loss as to who should Lead Off. Baez, Zobrist, Heyward, Russell, or maybe Contreras would be the only real options to lead off.

Heyward CF

Schwarber LF

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist RF

Russell SS

Contreras C

Baez 2B

Lester P

Bottom line there are 29 other teams that wish they had the Cubs "problems". Go Cubs!!!

Bill Simmons once wrote about jd drew and his $60 million grand slam.

Jason Heyward has the $187 million inspirational speech. I am thrilled to take it.

Good stuff. Heyward has been a mess this year we can all agree on that, but the players seem to respect him greatly. I like the fact that many said JHey doesn't say much, so when he was the one who spoke up, everybody listened and it resinated much more coming from him. At least it seems he earned some of that contract back in a pretty big way.

No way Almora bats leadoff just because he seems leadoffy.

I might go something like:

Zobrist rf

Rizzo 1b

Bryant 3b

Schwarber lf

Russell ss

Contreras

Heyward cf

Baez 2b

Champs! Had to get in on this thread before page 108! I wanted a championship for the Cubs more than any team I root for in any sport. That strange "Cubs are actually champs!" feeling is slowly sinking in and I've been weirdly emotional the last 48 hours! Both my parents and all extended family are from Northern Illinois and have cheered the Cubs for generations. I really wish my 94 year old grandmothers would've been alive for this, but neither quite made it. One, the daughter of a major-leaguer herself, never missed a game and took me to my first ever Cubs game at Wrigley in 1991. This site is wonderful because it keeps me entertained and connected to all of you great Cubs fans while living abroad. Thanks Tim! Thanks everyone! GO CUBS! \:D/

If Dex leaves, Zobrist is pretty much the perfect replacement for him at lead-off. There were 24 guys with at least 350 PA batting first this year. Dex ranked first with a .393 OBP. Zobrist's .386 OBP would have been right behind him in second place.

Something like CoolHandLuke's lineup is basically the same thing we've seen all year, except with Schwarber added in Zobrist's place to make our 2-3-4 insane. And then the younger guys behind them have another year of maturity and experience added.
