I went Bryant shirsey for the last 4 games and am switching to Rizzo shirsey tonight.

If we lose again I might have to bust out the Santo jersey that I've kept on ice so far this playoffs.

I've been in a Bryant jersey. I have the Santo ready for tonight.

I love when a plan starts coming together

Would love to see what the board thinks but I don't think going on 3 days rest cause be a big change in their performance considering the way Francona uses them. He wants the starters to go 4-5 innings then turn it over to the bullpen. He can and will pull them early so their PC is low. I'm guessing the recovery time for throwing like 75 pitches is shorter than throwing 110 or whatever. And then even in the game they pitch on short rest they will still only be expected to go 4-5 innings again.

Well if we have to face Kluber again it's best it's short rest than regular rest. Also a quick blurb from Fangraphs..

Below, you’ll see statistics for two groups, in postseason play between 1995-2013. The first group is starters who went on three days’ rest. The second group is starters who didn’t. Understand that the first group should be selective for better arms, because you don’t put mediocre starters on short rest in October, or ever. Typically, it’s aces who go on three days’ rest, and the numbers are telling:

Short-rest group: 4.66 ERA, 5.13 RA

Other group: 3.99 ERA, 4.30 RA

On short rest, starters have faced fewer batters, on average. They’ve posted worse game scores, on average. And — maybe most importantly — teams with starters going on short rest have won 33 times and lost 52 times. Now, maybe these teams are worse, which is why they’re starting guys on short rest in the first place, but they’ve by and large given the ball to their aces, and the aces haven’t delivered like usual.

Pitchers in the playoffs lately have been worse on short rest. For the most part, these were pitchers selected because it was believed they’d be good on short rest. It’s been demonstrated, in particular in The Book, that pitchers suffer on short rest, relative to regular rest. So you expect the odds of success to be lower. You lower your expectations. It’s always a case-by-case basis, but when you look at the cases together, you see some separation.

yeah, I gotta say I'm not thrilled at all with facing Kluber 2 more times, even on short rest. someone's going to have to give me a very detailed and compelling argument

He'll be worse

I dont get why the Indians don't go with 1 bullpen game instead of sending their already mediocre starters out there on 3 days rest TWICE

Kluber I understand but...Tomlin and Bauer? Huh.

I hope they get punished for their foolishness

Kluber would be the only one to go twice on short rest

nobody knows this, and even if he is, will he still be better than Lackey? I'd say most likely yes

Won't be a game 7 so only see him once more.

I want run differential games against Tomlin and Bauer. Maybe Miller can throw 40+ pitches every game too.

I'm also assuming Miller and Kluber have scheduled appointments with Dr. James Andrews in the offseason.

They'd all be going on short rest. Game 2 is Wednesday, Game 5 is Saturday for Bauer. Game 3 is Friday, Game 6 is Tuesday.

There are studies on this page showing that pitchers on short rest in the playoffs, typically aces, perform worse than the average pitcher starting on normal rest. Yes, there is no way to know for sure if that applies to Kluber. But I like our odds.

Game 4 against Lackey, sure. Game 7 against Hendricks? After his last start, I'd maybe take Hendricks over a well rested Kluber, much less one on his second straight short start.

which I also believe, but I don't understand why people think it's such a good thing that Francona would ride him like that if it does happen to go 7. he doesn't have to be as dominating as he was last night to still be really horsefeathering good

pitchers who are asked to start on short rest are almost always really horsefeathering good pitchers and they still tend to suffer noticeably.

I'll take my chances on such a situation, with this lineup, any day.
