Rizzo's the only one I'm worried about; Russell has had plenty of stretches where he stinks with the bat and the team did fine. They've dealt with Heyward all season, too, and kicked ass. But Rizzo being ice cold seems like it's having a pretty big ripple effect.

Yeah, but Rizzo seems to go through these stretches 2-3 times a season and then snap right out of it.

Russell should be dropped in the lineup, but I'm not sure it'll happen if Heyward and Montero start Game 3.

Yeah, ultimately I'm confident Rizzo will pull out of it (actually looked better tonight, IMO), but I agree with dropping Russell and putting Baez in his spot. Wouldn't mind Almora getting the start over Heyward, too.

Hitting home runs in the 8th and 9th counts just as much as hitting them in the 2nd and 3rd. Arrieta had a good start in SF, has done well against this Dodger team, and to reiterate, the Dodgers have not hit for crap thus far in the series.

that's awesome. we're hitting something like .190 in the playoffs so far, but thank god roberts decided to walk heyward and coghlan last night and the guy who's so crippled he almost didn't make the roster hit a bomb

drunk and trolling, IMO

are you pissy because im being negative or are you pissy because you feel the same way you just dont want to be bitched at for admitting it

Yeah you either have to go full on small sample size and talk about how Hill and Urias both haven't pitched well in the playoffs, or if you want to bring in full season 'bb ref' pages, then you have to acknowledge our team is full of elite hitters who have produced all year (and last year). You can't just pick whatever fits your Rondon Fan-esque outlook.

Hill has struggled in the playoffs and urias has only thrown a couple of innings. their sample is much smaller than the 202 at bats our offense has faltered through so far.

Do those 202 at bats include all the home runs you're saying doesn't count? Just curious.

Yes, and if the wind was swapped yesterday and today, then the Cubs win like 6-3 yesterday and 5-2 today. If you want to play up 'all good things that happen are flukes' have at it, but it's not reality. Literally every anxiety you can have about the upcoming games applies more to the Dodgers than the Cubs.

Don't remember enough about what Urias throws, but I don't think you can start Heyward against Hill and his curveball.

Dex, KB, Rizz, Zobrist, Baez, Contreras, Russell, Almora, Jake

Rizzo does this and then ends up hitting 3 HRs in 2 games. Russell on the other hand.........

Russell was very bad before the postseason started. He's had about a month of bad games.

And he had other bad stretches, too. They can easily win with Russell not hitting; it's not nearly as much of an issue as Rizzo going through one of his slumps.

Makes me REALLY miss Schwarber; the lineup is pretty barren of power right now once you get past Bryant until Baez comes up to bat.

I'm thinking we'll be seeing a bit more Soler with a pair of lefty's due up next.

What about anyone other than Kershaw , Seager, and Gonzalez makes you soo [expletive] scared. Rich Hill is a good pitcher, who also walks a lot of batters

rich hill walked 1.3/9 as a dodger

How many innings did he pitch as a Dodger?

his bb/9 is something like 2.3/9 in the 140 innings his pitched since his resurrection. you can pretend he's some mitch williams SP but he's not.

i would bet a lot of money that we dont come back from LA

i've never said they didn't count, i've said they've masked how pitiful our offense has been so far.

Not sure Almora's bat is any better than Heyward's tbh but at least you get the L/R advantage. Even if Almora's inserted in the lineup, they're not displacing Russell out of the 5 or (maybe) the 6 spot in games Montero starts.

Swing and miss, sparky. But that's pretty typical for you in game threads. You should take a break.

The idea of Soler is so much better than Soler actually is.

its also pretty typical for our offense the last six games.

So, all the innings the Dodger pen is throwing amongst 3-4 guys is going to catch up to them, especially in a 7 game series. You can't continue to run those guys out there for that many innings without eventually having it blow up in your face.

the reality is that it has a high likelihood of coming back to chicago because this team is so good it doesn't often lose three in a row. But considering that I don't like the matchups or the way we've swung the bats the last two weeks, if I was in vegas and it was like +200 or whatever, I'd definitely bet on it

Yessir, and Roberts is going to continue to do it outside of a Kershaw pitched game

Playoff wide OPS going into tonight was .603. Even if you weirdly say everything good that we've done is just masking all the crap and somehow needs to be removed from the numbers, we'd still fall right about in line with everyone else.

Every reasonable thought process says the offense is going to perform better than it has. To write it off after 6 games, where 3 of them were against top 10 pitchers in the league, seems odd.
