Yeah, everyone I was with was yelling at the screen when we realized Zobrist was still out there. Totally agreed with the moves Maddon was making in regards to the pitching, but then he leaves Churchy McBibleface out there instead of basically anyone except Soler? Odd.

And speaking of Zobrist, was he using different walk-up music all night?

Benny and the Jets was playing for his last AB. I know I heard his wife's song earlier in the night

yikes i didn't even see this post when i made mine

and i agree that it was odd that almora didn't come into the OF in the 9th

i think it was a reference to him saying that riding his bike to Wrigley in uniform reminded him of Benny the Jet in Sandlot. But it is kind of odd because the 7th inning of the 82nd home game of the season is a strange time to play something other than his wife's one song for likely the first time all season.

also i love how we horsefeathering run those plays against the baserunners trying to take their liberties on lester. we horsefeathering play chess and everyone else plays checkers.

i will say, there were way more really old people interspersed throughout the crowd. makes sense and not a surprise, but it was almost dangerous. saw two guys who were at least 80 who were getting medical attention after they fell down the stairs and hurt themselves on the way out at the end. there was one in my row too with his daughter. he was pretty awesome tho.

random meatball anecdote...on the train last night, heard a middle aged dude complaining about why they'd start a 2B in lf (granted, Zobrist had a misplay) and that soler would've been much better there. some college kid replied that they probably wanted baez's glove at 2B, and then the guy was like "but he didn't even play well there." like what the horsefeathers game were you watching?

Probably because of the early bobble on the Pence hit? Stupid stuff like that will be remembered and then when he makes the rest of the game routine, people think any 2B could make the harder plays he makes.

I keep hearing about the broadcast being so bad. Was it better or worse than TBS last year? Because that is tough to top

Very weird camera angles for a lot of the game. Like it was oddly elevated behind the pitcher.

For better illustration, it feels like this is how it was set up last night:

Just read through all of this.

What a game, javy is the best.

How much of a [expletive] was the guy who got picked off at first AFTER we sent in a new glove for rizzo so that javy could be the tagger? How do you get caught out when they are obviously running a play at you?

I'd rather have elevated than off-center. True outside/inside corners are the best.

Yeah, I actually like the straight on view.

It was useful to see what pitches actually were inside vs. outside, even though the ump didn't seem to care, but if that was their purpose then why the hell did they have that awful K-Zone camera in the camera well? It looked like they ran out of cameras and dusted one off from the '82 World Series.

I also dislike the elevated angle because it completely ruins the visual aesthetic of breaking pitches. As long as there's a good K-Zone, the off center look is the best look. There's a reason every baseball team in the majors uses it. It's superior.

They said on the radio that it is on top of the scoreboard. They also said that Fox and ESPN have done this the last three times to Wrigley.

I would prefer the off-center view like they have had forever and the straight on view for their "k-zone" instead of the other way around. Also they shouldn't have used the first digital video camera ever made for their off-center camera

I know it doesn't make much sense but maybe Joe was thinking that leaving Zorbrist in LF just in case the Giants tied it up or took the lead (gasp) in the 9th. Ben was due up 4th in the bottom half? Maybe wanted his bat just in case over Almora? Still Almora being out there is supposed to prevent the Giants from tying it up so while typing this it makes even less sense. I doubt Almora makes that play on Pousy's shot but he might have with his speed and it would have been a spectacular play.

Yeah, Zobrist's bat is too valuable and his defense in LF good enough that you aren't going to pull him with a 1 run lead. In other words, Almora isn't entering a game that Baez starts unless there's an injury.

I kind of considered that as well. Almora just has the far-superior OF instincts and might have made that a closer play at 2B at the least. What you sacrifice by (in possibility of a tie or worse) having him in the lineup is his plate discipline, obviously is terrible compared to Zo but he would likely put the ball in play, not be succeptible to the shift, and has the benefit (to a small degree) of having a limited scouting report. Hope Joe starts going that route.
