Dude has 295 1/3 IP in the majors and hadn't been called for a single balk before tonight. That's an ump show plain and simple and Bleier was remarkably restrained considering the circumstances. He should have come to a complete stop, flipped the ump the bird, and then thrown the next pitch.

I feel like this says it all:

Joe West seems to be enjoying himself in retirement

- edits his wikipedia page to remove negative stuff

- his changes get reverted

- he makes more changes in a similar vein

- they get reverted again

- he threatens to sue them and gets banned from making wikipedia edits

I was coming to post the same thing. Not sure I’ve ever seen one that intentionally awful.

The catcher knew it was so bad that he immediately went to calm down the batter so he wouldn’t get in trouble.

That ump should be immediately be fired. That’s not just incompetence. Thats just pure spite at what doesn’t even seem to be that bad of an overreaction.

He's been placed on indefinite suspension for now. I suspect he'll never umpire another college game again.

last night (big comeback game) was about as bad as it gets behind the plate.

Pretty much:

If you click through the link it says that was a 6th percentile performance in terms of accuracy.

I have a little sympathy for the ump there, the catcher is basically standing(which moves the ump out of normal position and hurts his ability to see the bottom of the zone) and stabs at it dramatically.  Gotta get it right, but much harder call than looking at the K-zone after the fact would imply.

Agreed, I can't get too bent out of shape when he misses his spot that badly

Link

Spencer Torkelson got hit in the hand/wrist with the bases loaded.

Angel Hernandez said he swung. Balls and strikes are not reviewable.

edit - after all these years, I still can't figure out how to insert a Tweet / X directly into a post. I click on the three "..." in the top right corner, click on "embed post", copy the source code"......then what???

All you need is the URL of the tweet, if that gives you issues try getting rid of everything after the question mark you might see in the URL(including the question mark itself).

But sure, Angel, tell us again that you don’t get WS assignments due to discrimination and not just being a shitty umpire.

Can you imagine if Hawk was calling this game? It might have actually caused him to have a heart attack on air.
