The flip side of that is that your 4-5-6 hitters are coming to bat looking at 0 outs against an 18 year old rookie pitcher who is struggling.

Judging by his velocity, I think he might just be gassed this late in the season.

 

He's gonna have about 3 years left of control by the time the Dodgers trust him to go a full season.

The negative impact on your chances of scoring if giving away one of your three precious outs, especially at the hands of a guy getting on base at like a .390 clip, is MASSIVE. There's no good argument to be made that it was a good move.

Maddon over managing here. Hammels earned the right to correct himself and give the team a chance to win. The Cubs are not in the heat of a pennant race right now.

The Dodgers aren't really equipped to hit lefties with this lineup today, and Hammel was bad. This seems more like a move you make if you're in a close race, but eh, I think it's a good move if Z can go 4 innings or so.
