The difference is that this year many media types have drank the Kool Aid and are predicting big things for the Vols based on.....reasons

Kinda like everyone picking Tampa Bay to do something in the NFL last year. No one knows why they're picking them, but everyone is doing it

On paper the Vols having a big season made sense. Kentucky, South Carolina, Mizzou, and Vandy are all utter garbage. Georgia has a first year head coach and a true freshman at QB. They do have to play at A&M though, and they host Bama, and host Florida. So their only real competition in the East is a Florida team that isn't all that special. Them winning the East seemed like an easy pick.

College Football prognosticators looooove teams with history that lost a bunch of close games the year before. It seems all too often they end up continuing to lose close games because their coaches are not actually good, but what do I know.

Don't worry guys, THIS is the year Tennessee breaks out and dominates the SEC

Yeah, Tennessee fans are really, really bad about the whole "Vols are back, baby!" thing every single damn year. Even when Tennessee was successfully back in the late 90's, the rest of the league was an absolute wasteland other than Florida, whom they've only beaten 3 times in the last 23 years

It's not a league

Tennessee hasn't won 10 games since the Bush administration, and their fanbase at large hasn't realized that they aren't special anymore. A lot like Nebraska, to be honest.

There's a ton of similarities between Nebraska and Tennessee. Both share a great history and rabid fan bases, both were last at their peaks around the turn of the century, but both suffer from being located in a weak talent recruiting base while their primary rivals have become even more national powerhouses.

I'll have to disagree with Tennessee being in weak recruiting ground. I mean, it's not Florida or Texas, but it isn't Mississippi or Arkansas. For example, last year the state of Tennessee produced 2 five stars and 10 four stars. Mississippi produced 0 five stars and just 4 four stars. Also, Tennessee doesn't have any other big football schools anywhere else in the state to compete with them, whereas Mississippi has two SEC schools and has LSU and Alabama lurking nearby picking off in-state talent. Thus why Ole Miss has to cheat to be competitive in the recruiting world.

I think Tennessee's issues have been with coaching. Fulmer got fat(ter) and lazy, then Kiffin did nothing, and then Dooley did even less.

Man, y'all are tossing spears through my heart. I've been a fan of Tennessee since I was 2 and I pointed at the tv when they were on and said I liked them because of their color. And I went to Nebraska the past 3 years for school and have kinda committed to being a Husker fan even though I'm not going there anymore.

Stop picking on me!

But for real, you're not wrong. About Nebraska especially. What they have and had was and is special, but the Huskers aren't in a position to recruit, nor play, at a national championship contending level. Curse you geography and population density!

Their fans truly care about their team, and they know their history. Like any other faction of fans, the knowledgeable ones are capable of seeing things without blinders on, but there are always the insatiable, ravenous masses who still expect/demand national titles.

That having been said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Big Ten west this year.

I'm really thinking that LSU is going to get beaten by Wisconsin. There's a ton of Badger fans that live down here and frequent my corner bar, so it will be interesting if/when LSU starts sucking. Nothing is worse than drunken idiot LSU fans.

Houston seems to be playing loose and aggressive. OU is playing like they are scared to lose. Not aggressive.

Coach Hermann can pick almost any job he wants if he's willing to leave. Strong had better look good this year at UT.

Ohio State fans will not be happy that Oklahoma lost

I'm not happy because it means OU isn't as good as thought and OSU might beat them
