I don't really understand how our FO can make so many sterling moves and then go out and make such a brazenly unnecessary acquisition like Joe Smith.

Relief pitchers and bullpens are historically finicky, fickle amoebas of performance and results. It's the hardest thing to build and keep consistent. I'm not saying Smith is good or was a good acquisition, just that he just as easily could have given us multiple innings of no runs and few base runners instead of being a dumpster fire.
