lmao i wanna know how derwood his original post was

I almost responded to it snarkily it was something like:

Bryant doesn't deserve the MVP - he only has 2 more RBIs than Russell who didn't even deserve to make the All Star team - every Chicago sports radio caller

we should send jeff luhnow a gift basket every offseason.

Somehow Mark Apell got worse when he left the PCL. that's a feat

I mean yeah Kris Bryant is good and all, but the Astros couldn't have gotten Ken Giles without including Appel as a throw in

What Cubs fan, dumb or not, is going to bag on Bryant and use Russell as an example?

The same ones who call for Maddon to be fired after every loss. No one here

I was more making fun of the people who cried about Russell being an All Star

I listen to way more Chicago sports talk than I should and I don't think I've ever heard any Cub fan call for Maddon to be fired after a loss.

Didn't I say this in the first post of this thread (or at least somewhere on the first page)

Russell probably shouldn't have been an all star. Definitely not a starter.

I want to find every hand wringing Kyle post about Bryant's K rate and defense and do a Neslon Muntz.

It's not like he was wrong that it was a concern.

Bryant just fixed it.

It was more him saying that players are coming into MLB fully formed these days (and peaking earlier than ever) and that it was likely that what we saw in Bryant his rookie year was all that he'd ever be.

When our players develop in significant ways at the big league level, it's far more the exception than the norm and probably a testament to the guys we have and the development staff we have all the way up and down, but - again - he wasn't wrong about that in general.

yeah, nevermind, sorry, kyle was completely wrong to worry about bryant's contact rate and defensive scouting reports coming up. MEA CULPA.

he lives in california now and not iowa or whatever the horsefeathers hell hole so he probably has other things to do than be a pain in the ass on a message board (or there's just nothing to complain about) i guess, assuming he doesn't have a desk job like most of us.

That is actually very context dependent. While it is *fairly* true as a generality, it doesn't take long to look around at the young players in MLB to say that it is very far from a hard and fast rule. For every Trout, there are several like Machado.

Please, the context of most of those posts were in response to someone saying something like Bryant is going to be awesome when he gets to the bigs. His doom boner was strong with Bryant.

Sure, but given how good Bryant already was, it was fairly safe to say that he wouldn't get much better (because there's not much room for growth from what he already was) in any tangible way...have better seasons? Yeah, sure that's baseball and player performance varies from year to year, but actually be a better player? Pretty questionable. If he had come in and just been OK and shown flashes, then maybe, but there's not a whole lot of room to be better than a 6.6 win(in 150 games) player. Just so happens (and it looks like this actually happened late last year), KB closed a hole in his swing and actually got better in a meaningful way.
