Not sure what that guy's talking about. La Stella is listed at 1 year, 124 days of service time on BR prior to this year, and a service year is 172 days. You also earn service time on the 15 day DL. La Stella earned a little under 120 days of service time this year prior to being optioned, so for a very rough approximation he's at like 2 years, 75 days. As a guy who won't be a first division starter, losing a month of service time definitely hurts since he's more likely to be non-tendered than to get a starting job and stay on a roster for seasons at a time, but there's no threshold that he's falling short of by being sent down right now.

EDIT: My guess is that guy saw the 1.124 on BR and didn't realize that it wasn't including this season, in which case getting sent down would keep La Stella from reaching 2 years of service.

All I know is the rest of the team, including guys like Almora in Iowa, are working their butts off so they can help the team win a world series. If La Stella is off sulking instead of using the Iowa playing time to prove that he's too good to leave off the roster, then screw him. Hopefully, some of the guys on the team can talk some sense into him. Otherwise the org can give him the same treatment Sammy Sosa is getting for a much better reason.

Thanks for the clarification.

I wonder how the other players feel about La Stella's response to this.

he'll probably get ambushed with a sock full of pennies

They'll just put an end to his fish treats.

Read something on Twitter from Carrie Muskat that La Stella basically made a deal with the Cubs that he would not report but would continue to work out at his home in NJ. WTF?

Reading @BleacherNation Twitter feed from the last 20 mins regarding LaStella and Maddons quotes. This thing keeps getting weirder. I'm not sure we will ever see Seal Boy in a Cubs uni again.
