I haven't been to Wrigley in a long time but I can't imagine they're that careless. Something as blatant as smack my bitch up can't be on the approved playlist. They would have to intentionally select every song to make sure it's cleared to be played under their performance licenses anyway, so the title can't really sneak by.

I'm not going to claim exhaustive knowledge of the process, but my mental model is that they aren't reviewing every audio clip they have each year. If that's the case, then they definitely screwed up more than what I was picturing, but the fact that they've got that in there at all(a 20 year old song with that title) is probably an indicator that whatever list they're pulling from wasn't being reviewed with much scrutiny, if at all.

Well the 20 years old doesn't surprise me. They play "Whoop there it is" after home runs after all. Obviously that's not the real problem though.

I'm skeptical that the title portion was actually played(it'd be very easy to have a ballpark sized portion of that song without any of the 'lyrics'). They're still responsible for the output(even without the lyrics people are gonna recognize the song), but if you've got a playlist of 100 between innings songs set to cycle through or something(especially if they might not be labeled by title), it's a lot easier to see how that ignorance could happen.

No matter what portion is heard, a song with that title should never intentionally be played during a baseball game (other than the intern protest scenario).

Not arguing otherwise, only pointing out how it could happen, especially since 10, even 5 years ago there wouldn't have been the same response to the same clip being played.

Nah, that song's been dicey along those lines since it came out. It wouldn't have been as quick a story, say, 10 years ago minus something like Twitter, but it's a song that I would assume most organizations wouldn't even want on on their playlist just since it's been a headache since it was released.

I don't claim to know the actual process they're using either. But I do know that they've got to make sure that all the music they play is licensed, so they have to know what the songs are called. I assume that they have an approval process that would at least include reading the titles of the songs. But I can't imagine a baseball stadium wouldn't also scrutinize the music to, for example, make sure they're not playing F bombs between innings. This is less scrutiny than that.

It's hard to believe that someone didn't know what they were doing playing this song.

Yeah, I have to think this was intentional; it's not like this is a song typically played at public events that they just stumbled across or accidentally played, and the obvious reason why is right there in the title. I have a feeling this was an awesome bit of...

Aroldis' entrance music should be the old Vince McMahon entrance theme.

I suppose that would depend on how fast it's read.

There's no words during that time. Reading through the lyrics doesn't seem to be anything too offensive.

I'm in no way disputing the actual talent of Chapman. Just the time we have him under control. Chapman the baseball player is an amazing addition and right up there with anybody we could have reasonably acquired.

well sometimes you need to win the world series and not worry as much about winning the award for most team control. 90 percent of our team is controlled for the next half-decade.

how much do you think this increases the chances the cubs win the WS this year?

A lot

I have no worthwhile data to back this up, but I don't think we have ever been interested in Chapman due to this:

Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman allegedly fired eight gunshots in the garage of his Miami-area home following an October argument with his girlfriend in which she told police he “choked” her and pushed her against a wall, according to police reports obtained by Yahoo Sports.

Man, given what we know about this FO and the owners now, I'm pretty it was actually a selling point for them.

Yeah it’s funny, back then I had this mistaken belief that the Cubs FO would never acquire a player with baggage like that but now it seems like an annual tradition.
