Once Trump is elected president, a lack of a Cubs world series will be the least of your worries.

We are underplaying our talent level and dealing with a lot of injuries and regressing at the same time we are playing a majority of our games against contenders.

Doesn't explain all the losing but it is a reason for a lot of it

I'm having flashbacks to...well, to the rest of my life as a Cubs fan.

They're 9 up on the division. Sure, they'll probably lose in the playoffs, but that is future you's problem.

Haha I like how your crisis intervention method is to remind the person in distress that the future looks even bleaker.

I watched Fight Club when I was 15 so I'm basically a hardcore Nihilist

Look at the Mets record v the Cubs in the 2015 regular season and compare it to the 2015 post season.

I kept asking the people really, really, really, really terrified by this stretch to explain how they KNOW getting swept now means the Cubs couldn't possibly beat the Mets months later in the playoffs despite what the Mets did last year, but there were no takers.

That only applies if we make the playoffs. After the Cardinals run us down, the competition for the WC will be fierce.

Don't tell that to all the meatheaded Mets fans who felt the 2015 NLCS invalidated the regular-season results, yet also somehow think this last weekend cements that the Mets will beat the Cubs in October.

I heard the '69 Cubs had all stars at every position but a yuuuge issue with the Mets

OK, I won't, because who the hell wants to talk to Mets fans.
I own a Mets shirt

I've been at a conference all weekend so I missed most of the whole doom spiral against the Mets but the best way to talk anyone down is: as long as this team makes the playoffs as a division winner everything's good. It's all a virtual crapshoot anyway, and the Cubs are >95% to win the division.

The struggles have been annoying after the otherworldly start, but there's time in what remains a basically extended preseason to tweak and fix and acquire and do whatever else you can do (which is very little) before the playoffs.

My daughter's team went like 2-20 and I blame the Mets team name

Not sure I can talk you down recent history has me very concerned!

The Montreal Canadiens started last year off 9-0... With about a 1/3 of the season gone the Habs were 12 games above .500! Then they had a key injury (Price- gone for the season) and that started to send them down the standings as they couldn't keep the puck out of there own net. By the end of the season they finished with a .500 record and were out of the playoffs after such an awesome start to the year it was highly unlikely that they would have missed the playoffs.

Looking at the Cubs 1/3 of the way thru I remember talking about how they were 35-14 or something around there and it reminded me of how I felt with the Habs the great joy of seeing your team do great and have high hopes for a playoff run... But I couldn't bring myself to thinking that they would continue that dominance and was thinking that all we need to do is play .500 ball the rest of the way and we will be in the drivers seat and should avoid the wild card game and have a good chance at a bunch of home games in the playoffs. Since then I think that is exactly what the team has done play right around .500 ball...

I guess all that I can say is that lets hope that the injury bug has taken its bite and is going to move along to some other team (just not the Jays- as I would love to see Cubs v Jays WS- then I will have problems not knowing what team to cheer for from my seats in Rogers Centre)
