Ouch, they've got 8 vs the giants and dodgers after this? they'll be 20 back after that

Given their recent spate of injuries, that may be depressingly optimistic for the Pirates ...

I'd say the Cubs lost that trade...but not really (Castro has a -0.2 fWAR and is owed another $40 million over the next 4 years).

That being said, time for Warren and Richard to be relegated to somewhere esle. Give Patton and Pena a shot. Hell, give Concepcion a shot, he's holding lefties to a .293 OPS so far this year.

Not to dump on Addison at all, but is it time to think about giving Javy ABs over Addy? He's a better defender and a better shot at reaching some sort of ceiling. Not a knee jerk reaction because I want Russell to be a star, but it's a legitimate question given what's happening.

It kinda seems like Javy has been getting a start a week at SS for a few weeks now. That seems like enough, Russell's defense is too valuable to not be playing him a heavy majority.

Not advocating it yet, but Javy's defense negates any argument for Addy on those grounds. I know I'd like to see Javy get 15+ ABs a week, plus his defense in the infield. Again, not dumping on Russell, but when I look for the top lineup, Addy's not there yet,

Not questioning Maddon or anything but I thought his bullpen management was iffy today. Using Grimm for only one batter when he's still a better option against lefties than Richard and pushing Warren past 50 pitches in the 9th.

Contreras joins Castro and Soler as recent Cubs to HR in their first MLB AB.

Am I missing someone else, I feel like I am?

Not first AB but Javy homered in his first game also. Now Contreras just needs two in his third game to join Javy and Jorge.

Huh, Brewers are the only current team to never have a player homer in their first at-bat. The Braves did when they were in Milwaukee, but the Brewers (even the one year in Seattle) haven't.

the contreras home run wasn't pat's best call, but i'm just glad that it came in the 6th inning because ron coomer would have horsefeathering butchered the call badly like he always does.

It is okay for the Cubs to do good things in the fifth inning during national TV games, because Len sits in on the radio broadcast and does PBP instead of Coomer.

Yeah, this is probably the most disappointing lineup thus far. Been waiting for Maddon to roll out the youngest possible group and tonight would have been a great opportunity.

This season just gets better and better. I write this and then 5 dongs from players averaging ~ 24 years of age. Or just under 5 years per dong. I wonder what the record there is?

Who is that guy in the blue polo/cubs hat? Every time they showed Theo tonight he seemed to be talking to him

I was guessing it was maybe a scout that discovered Willson but it's probably just a friend of his
