do peopel not realize that they're 8-9 record in one run games is a testament to how good they are because when they lose, they lose close? lol

They've only lost 6 games by more than 2.

I nominate the Pirates for the Participation Trophy. They try their asses off. The little engine that almost could.

9-9 in 1-run games

6-5 in 2-run games

31-6 in games decided by 3 or more.

I'm glad the forums screwed up and posted this twice because it's so good

I think the Fox announcers said something today about the Cubs having outscored the Pirates by 2.5 runs per game this season. That's a cool stat that shows dominance over a pretty small sample size.

What I don't think they mentioned is that the Cubs are averaging more than 2.5 runs per game better than their opponents in ALL of their games this season.

Cubs could go 4-11 in their next 15 and be on pace for 100 wins

I posted last night that the Cubs could lose 16 in a row and still be on pace for 90 wins. Not sure which of those is sexier.

If the Cubs go .500 the rest of the season the Cardinals would have to play at a 101-win pace and the Pirates at a 105-win pace for the rest of the season for them to TIE the Cubs.

Anyone know an easy way to look up the largest division lead at any point in a single season? I used B-R to look up the division winners last year and click on each one's schedule, which will show the largest lead for that team, but I was hoping there was an easier way.

Last year, the Royals had a 14.5 game lead, which was the largest in the league at any point. In 2014, it was Washington at 17 games.

Looking at some of the best teams in recent memory, the 04 Cards topped out at 17.5, the 01 Mariners were up by 21 games (and on July 1 after only 80 games) and the 98 Yankees got to 22 games up.

Didn't realize how good the A's were in the second half in 2001. They were 35-40 at one point and finished 67-20. They were also 57-50 and finished 45-10, ending the year winning 29 of their last 33 games.
