Vance Law was an All-Star?????????? Kinda takes a little bit of shine away from the honor, no?

Check Ron Coomer's 1999. Gross.

ETA: Vance Law's numbers are far better than I thought they were.

Vance deserved all star consideration for the baseball card photos alone.

I'm convinced they printed 100 times more Vance Law cards this year than any other player I had hundreds of this card

That's 89 tops? or 88?

Thoat was the '89 card, and you aren't kidding about getting his card all the damn time. It felt like he was in every other pack.

Yes, a bit unusual, but a term that his sexy ass glasses insisted upon in the contract they signed with topps.

I had to get glasses when I was 10, and I very stupidly picked those big ass glasses because I thought, and I remember this so clearly, that if I got glasses that big I'd be able to see more/better.

I mean, yeah, you technically "see more," but [expletive], I wish I could travel back in time and just shake some sense into that kid. I realized very quickly that those glasses were a poor choice, but there was no way my parents were letting me replace expensive glasses that soon. I definitely tried to break them, but those horsefeathering frames were indestructible. I was stuck with them until I was almost 13. Stupid kid.

I'm jealous of kids these days....the glasses designers have started making good looking frames for kids. Both of my daughters wear glasses and their frames are stylish. I asked my ten year old if kids at her school get teased for wearing glasses and she said "why would they? Half the kids wear glasses".

My glasses were always awful and dorky and horrifying

Yeah, I technically could have gotten better glasses at the time, but the selection as a whole was just awful. Nobody had good glasses in those days.

the cubs should decline their all star invitations like when a 6-6 team declines a bowl bid

Manny Trillo and Jose Cardenal were my first two favorite Cubs. Love the way Trillo gloved the ball, took it out for inspection before side-arming it to first base. And Cardenal had one hell of a fro.

Manny trillio pop up slide. It's a wonder I didn't break my leg trying to emulate it.

The rash of hamstring injuries on this team has been beyond frustrating. I wonder if it's a training/stretching issue. This was originally suppose to be a mild strain that was only going to keep him out of the lineup for 7 days or so. This offense really needs a healthy Dex to get going again.
