it's got to be a little weird for Howard to know that his career is pretty much over after this year

 

His career was over like 4 years ago, just no one told him.

 

I should clarify, it's kinda weird that he'll play mostly every day for the final 3 years of his contract and then the moment it's over be basically out of baseball. Doesn't happen very often for sure.

 

Nobody is forcing the Phillies to play him every day. If they feel resigned to keeping him on the roster, sunk cost be damned, why don't by give him the Paul Konerko treatment and have him ride bench except for some pinch hits here and there.
