Offseason got off to a rough start when Benny the Bull announced he was retiring.

Now Joakim Noah is telling teammates he won't resign with the organization. And it's because he doesn't trust Gar to right the ship. Apparently it doesn't have to do with Hoiberg, but implicitly it's related to the former.

Let's see if we can get this thread to two pages this offseason!

Sad to hear it's reached this point with Noah, but I can't say I'm sad to see him go.

I'm sad to see Noah the person go. Not really Noah the player though...he's not the same guy anymore.

On one hand he could probably still be a great energy guy and vet on a contender, while obviously being a fan favorite. On the other hand, the Bulls probably won't be making big moves this offseason, so it's better off he leaves.

Noah is better off going to an organization that isn't a damn train wreck, and the Bulls are better off not wasting cap money on a declining former stud.

I'll never forget Game 7 of the Nets series in '13, though, a game Noah basically won by himself.

I never expected him to re-sign. There are reports he clashed with Jimmy, the new coach sent him to the bench and said it was Noah's suggestion when it wasn't, the team was a huge disappointment and is not close to winning a title. Plus its pretty obvious the Bulls wanted to resign Pau, Pau basically let it be known he won't be coming back so they shifted their focus to Noah.

Exactly. He ended up being one of my favorites, but the writing has been on the wall for a while with how he's breaking down.

it's amazing how much i hated the joakim noah pick (and the talk leading up to the draft that we liked him) and then how much i wound up liking him.

I think that's the case for everyone; seemed like most people hated the pick and thought he'd be a bust. Though that Draft Day pick went a long way to getting me on his side.

Plus I technically went to school with him in Paris.

i was officially on board when i read this story

Lee was a senior at Florida when Noah arrived as a freshman. “Coach (Billy) Donovan told me that we had like a buddy system and I had to make sure he got to class on time – which first of all, was absolutely impossible,” Lee said. “So I said met me at this designated point, we’ll walk to your first class, you have no idea where the building is. He said, ‘OK, cool D, cool.’ “I see the guy on campus walking. He has shorts down below his waist, no shirt on and a boombox playing music while he’s walking. He’s like, ‘Yo, I’m ready for class.’ I’m like, ‘Jo, come on, man.’ He’s like, ‘What?’ “So that was my first ‘getting him to class’ experience.

I'm really going to miss Jo on the Bulls. Maybe my favorite post-Jordan-era Bull. And yeah, like a lot of people, I hated the pick at the time. But then he started winning me over by doing stuff like this:

Yeah, but that Jo is long gone.

Yeah, but this Jo isn't.

This is definitely the right move for the Bulls. It's just that Jo is one of the few likable guys from last year's team, and it's sad to see him go. He's definitely a shell of his old self, though.

He's not a productive 40 minute player, but interesting to point out that his per 100 possession numbers for assists and rebounds were career highs last year playing ~20 minutes a game. Obviously his knees will never be completely the same, but taking almost a year off probably has to be a good thing for them. I think he will be something like 75% of old Jo for the next 2-3 years.

this draft isn't very good though right?

there is no way GarPax is going to trade his best player to Thibs unless he was offering Anthony-Towns and/or Wiggins

Posted
So lots of rumors today......Bulls won't trade Butler unless Wiggins is involved. KC actually said they want him AND the pick. Boston is floating 3 evidently involving Butler. And they're trying to trade Rose......

I would take Wiggins for JB straight up. Minnesota wouldn't. This is the Bulls basically saying 'there is no way you are getting Butler Thibs'

I've heard Avery Bradley, #3, 16 & 23 for Butler. I don't know how I'd feel about that but Buddy Hield or Kris Dunn could be fun.

I'd do it if we could trade 3, 14, 16 and 23 for the #1 or 2 pick

Probably not. It's a good draft for depth/role players (I don't think there's a huge gap between say spot 7 and the late teens/early 20s). After Simmons/Ingram it seems like there's either project/stash guys like Bender, Brown and Chriss who have all-star potential as their ceilings but aren't going to do much immediately or guys like Hield, Murray and Dunn who are probably good pieces and do 1-2 things really well but have flaws. That being said I wonder how many future 1s or swap rights they could get out of Minnesota. #5, Lavine and Dieng or Pekovic and some future 1s or swaps rights for Butler could be an okay haul.

Jimmy Butler was on the Bill Simmons podcast the other day. Nothing newsy, but he comes off as a really awesome guy.
