I think Hill is going to be fairly costly, there just isn't going to be much pitching at the trade deadline unless you want to gamble on guys like Teheran, a struggling Gray, etc. The 2017FA market is going to be even worse and Hill might be the best pitcher available. At the rate he's going you'd have to think the As would give him a qualifying offer if he continues to pitch decently. I wouldn't be surprised if it took one of the top 5 and another in the top ten.

There's always the irrational fear that a return to Wrigley sparks bad memories and he goes back to walking everything in sight.

But in all seriousness, I have to wonder if Billy's going to try and do business with a GM who he has a better chance of fleecing since his other trade chips are broken.

Billy's going to always try and do business with whoever gives him the best return.

And judging by our FO's track record, that probably won't be us. Especially if we intend to use him as a reliever, while other suitors are going to be in the hunt for starting pitching.

And Hill's looking to be one of the best options on the market, at least in terms of rentals. Shields, Fister, and maybe Cashner are the only other options I can think of off the top of my head. I'd just as soon pony up for Teheran or Fernadez and let the White Sox, Dodgers, and Rangers duke it out for the rentals.

You act as if all this FO does is trade away trash for gold. Billy is going to take the best deal and the Cubs could offer the best deal. A competent front office isn't going to be afraid of dealing with the Cubs.

I would rather they overpay for Andrew Miller (If the Yankees are selling) if they are dead set on a lefty reliever and just give Adam Warren some starts.

Injuries are really screwing over Oakland's trade values. Reddick is likely to end up somewhere else and I didn't realize Chris Coghlan was sucking so bad this year.

I'd kindof rather target Drew Pomeranz; basically the same pitcher as Rich Hill, but younger and has extra team control. Really pitching well this year, but fangraphs noted that he wasn't able to add a cutter this offseason (Bosio's specialty). We can drop him in the pen at the deadline, he's a lefty, and since he has starter potential he could become our backup plan if Arrieta eventually leaves.

I don't see why the Padres would want to trade Pomeranz.

Edit: TT is too fast for me.
