The Cubs must be getting good because I am into power rankings and offense at being slighted by them again.

But seriously, this one is math based right?

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rpi

The Cubs are 3rd behind the 2nd place White Sox (RD +25, SOS slightly better, expected WL would put them 4 GB Cubs) and.....the 15-11 Philadelphia Phillies with a run differential of -23, expected WL of 10-16, and 15-11 overall record after getting smashed by the Cardinals last night.

I already made fun of it in general baseball.

run differential isn't a factor at all in the actual RPI ranking (even though they show run differential), i'm almost positive. it's just based on who you beat and the phillies just swept the nationals a few days ago.

edit - i worded that poorly. not who you beat, but who you've played. the phillies have a good record and have played a bunch of games against good teams like the nationals and the stupid mets.

Is +83 good? It really is crazy how many of the regulars are still under performing and they're still wrecking the league right now.

There really aren't any underperformers right now though, aside from Heyward. Rizzo, Bryant, Zobrist and Russell are giving us what you could reasonably expect. Fowler, Ross, Sczcur and La Stella and several of the starters are probably *exceeding* expectations.

Having no Schwarber sucks but the combined effort by the bench to fill in for him has been probably just as good as what he'd have pitched in. (Maybe better, which is probably not sustainable over the course of a season, but the same can be said for Heyward's production at the plate).

So, Joe said on the radio that he didn't think Szczur's thing was bad, and said he didn't know anything about it yet, and wouldn't till he got to the ballpark.

no marte partay?

I presume Marte's absence is due to Joyce being 7/14 w/ 1 HR and 2 BB vs. Arrieta.

That must be pre-super Arrieta so it doesn't count.

Well now that we know about Heyward having a wrist issue since the Arizona series i wouldnt have a problem with him going to the 15 DL and make sure that wrist is as close to a 100 percent as possible. Call someone from the 40 man roster up to take his place. They can survive 2 weeks without him. There is some talk of him playing tomorrow i am not sure that is a good idea.

Every day that I see that Baez is starting, I head to my daily fantasy sites and put in a line up with him on it.

Bad move. The real cash cow tonight sits in Federowicz.

I actually have him in my lineup too, so I can have enough to splurge on Jake.

Edit: I've been playing on Yahoo lately. Baez is nearly the same price as Federo there...

Man, it was a really bad idea for the Pirates to lose last night with Cole pitching. This lead could turn into 6 games very quickly.

It's weird how many comments I see from meatballs thinking any Cub getting beaned is righteous retaliation for what happened to Kang. I mean, I know meatballs are going to meatball, but even by their dumb standards how long is this supposed to go on for? We've seen multiple Cubs players beaned by the Pirates, plus I don't get the whole vendetta theory thing. Yeah, I'd have been pissed if a player on my team when out like that, but hell, Coghlan's not even on the team anymore. I remember half-jokingly being pissed at Furcal when he fucked up Lee's wrist, but it's not like I was hoping the Cubs would ever seek out payback or something against him. Edited by Sammy Sofa

It doesn't make any sense. Kang got hurt in the top of the first inning of that game, and no Cubs were hit afterward, intentional or otherwise. The idea that they stewed on the injury and then unleashed their fury in the 7th inning of their next meeting(after they had already hit Russell on accident) is more than hard to imagine. They were salty that they got beat(with their ace on the hill, and by the team ahead of them that ended their season last year) and probably annoyed that Marte was banged up(by getting hit for the league leading 6th time already), so they threw at Zobrist to retaliate. It was dumb and they are dumb for doing it.
