To be clear, Bob was fine. There are very few insightful and not backwards-thinking baseball color analysts, so while Bob had his flaws he didn't argue with Len when Len brought more progressive ideas up, and the two had a very good rapport. JD is the unicorn that doesn't force you to make that tradeoff. He's got the rapport, dad jokes, and he doesn't make you bite your tongue when he talks about baseball.

It is a different rapport, though; not bad at all, but Len seems to react to him like he's this weirdo who's wandered into the booth with him. It's pretty damn funny, but I definitely miss the Bob & Len dynamic.

I don't get that at all. I think Len and JD work extremely well together.

I didn't say it didn't work; it's just different. It also might be the slew of late night games to start the season, when JD seems to get especially loopy.

Fun fact: according to Wikipedia, JD holds the major league record for most at-bats without an extra base hit, with 373.

He must've been pissed when Lester avoided this fate yesterday.

Lester made it to 100 ABs.

Exactly. While it was really cool and goofy when JD made the "Arizona is a blue state!" comment this year, the 4 beats of silence and chuckle from Len afterwards were awkward...but I enjoyed it.

Ha, I don't get that vibe at all. Instead it seems to me that Len laughs and knows enough to let the joke be, without further comment.

Oh, definitely; I wasn't trying to say that Len seems put off by him.

Bob has gotten more cranky over the years. I got the Dbacks broadcast during the Cubs series and he was very curmudgeonly. He also comped Kris Bryant to Rob Deer, which I thought was kinda strange. I remember Deer as a big oaf strikeout or HR guy and not much else.

that's not THAT crazy a comp. as a hitter, bryant has, so far, been a lot like deer except with more babip.

in the hold: bukie (0-0)

just to be clear, in the hold is actually correct

Wikipedia disagrees

Both on-deck and in-the-hole were originally naval aircraft carrier terms. In-the-hole is the designated spot where the pilot would wait before going "on the flight deck". For safety and to avoid confusion this "hole" was below the level of the flight deck. On older carriers, it may have been an actual pit or just a designated off-the-flight-deck spot the pilot would await. So the sequence of a pilot was to be "in-the-hole" until he boarded his plane on the flight deck ("on-deck"). He was then taxied to the catapult where he was launched.

if you want to be all kyle/common usage about it, sure.

If by common usage you mean "every announcer and fan of baseball that's not an old man or a robot", yes

im extremely pumped up for this series, even if its just mid-april. seeing hilariously pathetic things like the cardinals messing with the music makes it even better. dong them straight to hell.

apparently they were showing video division championship banners from 2013-2015 or something like that while the cubs hit too...not sure if it's something they always do or not. writers were pointing it out like it wasn't.

I think they're unveiling their 2015 NL Central winners' banner tonight too. I wonder why they chose to do this tonight...

Tonight we find out if Lackey is a Cardinals mole who will punt to them in the regular season, or if he's a clever Cardinals mole who will cover his tracks by pitching well tonight and hoping it gets him a chance to punt to them in the playoffs.
