It doesn't necessarily mean he's a Trump supporter. I'm not and I think it's hilarious/shameful see so people claiming that they're moving to [insert country here].

You think it's shameful that people joke about leaving the country if a person who has literally stated he will trample civil rights gets elected president?

That's really dumb of you. You should look up the definition of shame.

Yes. I think it's funny that people getting involved in a democratic election can't handle that they lost fair and square, so much that they are (falsely) claiming that they are going to literally renounce their citizenship.

This happens literally every election and it doesn't get less stupid over time.

people's rights are legitimately at risk. Minorities, women and LGBT people are in danger.

And you find it funny.

That's privilege for you.

The Hollywood celebs that are threatening to leave likely don't have rights that are at risk.

And you know nothing about my privilege.

who are all these hollywood celebs? I've heard a handful of 'em joke about it. This "hollywood celebs" thing is a story as old as time with the right wingers. They want to deny people rights and claim it's only rich actors in mansions. There are working people who are gay/minority/etc who are justifiably scared.

Why does that amuse you?

That is what Jake was referencing in his tweet. There have been several publicized amplifications of random celeb tweets on moving, like this one.

Dan Bernstein was just talking about this, with all this "Hollywood bashing" is old code for jews, blacks, homosexuals and other minorities to get out. It's sad when common folk lash on to it without knowing exactly what they are saying. He basically said Jake probably is just a dumb Texan and didn't really mean it like that.

wait the millionaire from Texas, whose net worth is likely to quadruple or more in the next 10 years supports the Republican candidate. I'm shocked.

There were a whole host of celebrities who publicly said they would move out of the country if Trump was elected. How then is it "old code for jews, blacks, homosexuals and other minorities to get out" if someone calls them on their words?

Honestly, I don't care if any athletes voted for Trump. I can disagree with them. And I can think they are part of the problem. But, I get irrationally angry when people complain about athletes and celebrities voicing their political beliefs. We all have opinions and beliefs. And I would be pissed if someone told me I couldn't have them just because I played sports. So if Jake admitted he is a Trump fan, more power to him. Where I have a problem is with the rhetoric he used here. What he said was incendiary and hateful. If you are going to be a dumb, redneck meathead, then be a dumb, redneck meathead. But don't be an horsefeathers.

Because, like, half a dozen people said something along those lines, yet he falls back on the lazy "horsefeathers you, liberal Hollywood" bogeyman. I'm not saying he's explicitly doing what was described, but it's usually the type of ranting that shows someone to be a real dimwit. I mean, it's completely self-defeating; typically it's someone who thinks "ugh, why can't celebrities shut about politics," nevermind that his forum and his statement makes him the thing he's complaining about.

Am I the only one who remembers Republicans threatening to move to Canada if Obama were elected, and then reelected?

And if Jake could put fixing whatever it is that caused him to regress from Cy Young winning ace to mostly reliable 3-4 starter overnight before celebrity travel arrangements, that would be fabulous.

Yes. I remember when the ACA passed, many dimwits on Facebook and Twitter said because of this they were moving to Canada. I had to laugh

If anyone's actually remotely surprised that Arrieta isn't a liberal, they aren't paying attention the world around them.

But Travis Wood and Lester are super progressive, right?

Fair enough.

It's not surprising when any athlete turns out to be a conservative, but I think with Jake it was things like his fitness and diet routine and his beard and just generally seeming like a kinda cool dude that makes it sort of easy to think he maybe bucks the trend.

And also, I don't think it was the Trump support specifically that was the problem here. It was the dickishness and timing of that dickishness.
