Please elaborate.

I'm not really in need of elaborating. Why exactly are their rights in danger?

Is this a serious post? You're not sure how people's rights might be in danger when Trump ran on a platform that included reinstating stop and frisk in the inner cities, overturning Roe V. Wade, denying Muslims admission into the country, rolling back equal rights for LBGT, etc?

Much ado about nothing. Waste your time being concerned if you want.

Are you saying it was just campaign bluster or that those aren't things to be concerned about?

Bluster. Especially about Roe v. Wade.

The problem is his VP is very much about all that insanity, and Trump having no experience or knowledge of politics at all is likely going to lean on that nut job for a lot.

Good. I only have to wonder which of us is hopelessly naive rather than be appalled at your lack of concern.

Well if Boris on NSBB says so, we must be all good. Stand down, folks!

Yep, non-white, non-Christians have nothing to worry about; just a bunch of people spazzing out over nothing.

It's definitely going to be an interesting 4 years. Everyone better buckle up.

This isn't interesting, it's horsefeathering appalling.

while I'm also guilty of discussing politics here, let's take that to the politics thread and talk about Jake the baseball player here.

Frankly, as an impending FA, I'm still kind of hoping they work his arm down to a nub and then set him loose and take the compensation pick. Unless they can sign him to a team friendly extension, of course. Then be conservative with him once again.

i want him to pitch so well next year that there's no chance in hell he signs a team-friendly extension.

what I meant to imply is that unless he signs a team-friendly extension *before* the season begins, I hope they wear his arm down to a nub and then turn him loose.

Same here. Let someone else pay for his decline. I've been against trying to extend him since reports came out in ST that he had zero interest in any kind of team-friendly deal (which is entirely his right, to be clear), and his control/command issues, accompanied by him shelving his most devastating pitch, this past season hasn't given me any reason to change my mind.

I tend to think we got good Jake and won't see a version worthy of a lot of money again. I hope I'm wrong next season though

FWIW, 2016 Jake is about a $25+M a year pitcher.

If he wants to sign for 5/125 during spring training, I'm fine with that. If he wants 180-200 million, I tell him no thanks and let him throw 30% sliders the entire season.

I'm still tin foil hat-ing the whole "He saved his arm all year" angle with the reduction in sliders. Next year is a walk year, I think he dials it up to 11 and lets loose and has another 2015 in him so he can get a humongous pay day, a pay day the Cubs will gladly pass on.

He was. But we also saw how vulnerable he is, with the way he pitches and his mechanics. What is he if he isn't god-mode? Is it a mix of God-mode Jake and Bad Jake like we saw last year? Or does he eventually just become Bad Jake all the time? I think he is a really risky bet long-term at his age.

agreed. I think we're much more likely to see bad Jake going forward than even ok Jake. I do not believe god mode Jake exists anymore

In reality, God-mode Jake should never have been expected to come back for any length of time, and that's okay as long as we don't let that anchor expectations. Even if you strip out his April as the last of that version of Arrieta, he still was a near 4 win pitcher. Hopefully his walk year and some greater understanding of what kept him from being as sharp can make him more like 2014 Jake than 2016 Jake.

Was he hiding an injury for most of the season? He said he lost the feel for his slider. We've seen this movie before with a reliever that went from lights out to marginally effective. If he can't use his slider, is it worth maybe trying to turn him into the next great closer? I doubt that's the plan for this year but it wouldn't be the first time a very good starting pitcher reinvented himself as a dominant closer.
