If anyone's actually remotely surprised that Arrieta isn't a liberal, they aren't paying attention the world around them.

But Travis Wood and Lester are super progressive, right?

I don't care about his politics. I mean, I wish he wasn't a conservative, but I don't really care. I care very much about his rhetoric aimed at minorities.

I'm now in the horsefeathers jake, thanks for the no hitters, go chill with dbag schillling camp

You think it's shameful that people joke about leaving the country if a person who has literally stated he will trample civil rights gets elected president?

That's really dumb of you. You should look up the definition of shame.

Yes. I think it's funny that people getting involved in a democratic election can't handle that they lost fair and square, so much that they are (falsely) claiming that they are going to literally renounce their citizenship.

This happens literally every election and it doesn't get less stupid over time.

people's rights are legitimately at risk. Minorities, women and LGBT people are in danger.

And you find it funny.

That's privilege for you.

It's absolutely hilarious. It's also hilarious there's legit concern over these groups of people.

Huh? His rhetoric was aimed at Hollywood, not minorities... what are you talking about?

yeah i HIGHLY doubt arrieta knew of any of those connotations (of which I was barely aware) of a reference to hollywood people.

none of that was aimed at minorities, it was aimed at all of the celebrities who've said they'd leave the country if Trump was elected

The thing that bugs me is that it's seemingly unprovoked. I don't follow his Twitter account, but when he trolls other fans, it's because they've trolled him first. It seems as though this came out of nowhere.

I'm really really having a hard time understanding why Arrieta said something wrong.

I don't think it's "wrong" so much as he's just unfortunately being a dick.

Don't say you're going to leave and then expect not to be called out?

I don't believe in god yet made a whole bunch of promises during game 7. people say things

Ok?

Yes, if Jake Arrieta had given us a crafted treatise responding to the people that actually said such a thing, fine, but instead going with "DUR-HUR, GIT OUT, HOLLYWOOD" the morning after a stunningly divisive election just makes him sound like a dumbass. Who gives a horsefeathers if someone said they might leave the country?

People are touchy about the connotations of the whole "horsefeathers HOLLYWOOD" meme the Right has trafficked in for so long because we just elected a president whose campaign trafficked very much in thinly veiled anti-Semitic rhetoric that got some long-standing biases REALLY riled and being vocalized. Do I think Arrieta is someone like that? No. Do I think it's a lazy, tone deaf thing to say, and with things being how they are right now some people are going to be disappointed in him and worry he's maybe a Schilling-in-the-making? Yeah, that makes sense.

There was absolutely nothing at all wrong with what Jake said.

There was absolutely nothing at all wrong with what Jake said.

It was insensitive and absolutely unnecessary at best.

Unnecessary? He's free to voice his feeling on the results of the election just as much as anyone else - be it on Twitter or anywhere else.

I am free to voice my feelings on a lot of things. That doesn't mean it's necessary or, you know, a nice or good thing to do.

And we're free to voice our feelings on him being an horsefeathers.

Of course he is. And we're free to call him a dick for doing it.

I dont mind people being upset at him, but I don't care. If Hillary had won and people said "oh im out of here now" i'd have probably tweeted the same thing. We have a lot to worry about post-election, athletes being insensitive on twitter is way down the list.

FFS. A couple people in my office discussing this are seriously agreeing that Keith Law is the anti-semite for equating "Hollywood" with "Jews," using the old "the ones who scream loudest about such things are the actual racists." People think like this, and I knew it, but it remains jarring to hear it in normal, matter-of-fact conversation.

Well, yeah, I'm not worked up about it at all. Just giving my opinion on it since that's what we're talking about here.

Is this a serious post? You're not sure how people's rights might be in danger when Trump ran on a platform that included reinstating stop and frisk in the inner cities, overturning Roe V. Wade, denying Muslims admission into the country, rolling back equal rights for LBGT, etc?
