I've never loved a Cubs player more than I loved Jake Arrieta in the days surrounding the one game playoff against PIttsburgh.

Now he's probably not even top 15 of my favorite Cubs. Speaks more to how amazing the rest of this roster is, but still...be a solid number two this year and then enjoy the rest of your career watching the Cubs dominate Octobers from the couch.

It's a stupid sentiment for numerous reasons, but is there a pitcher who doesn't feel this way? It seems like comments like that are all you see on the subject.

yeah, he's always been a little bit of a red ass. although less so than lackey and in a much more likable way. it's that same attitude that got us this:

"I don’t think a six- or seven-year deal is out of the question,” Arrieta said, pointing out the lengthy careers of Cub John Lackey and ex-Cub Rich Hill. “I feel very confident I can pitch until I’m 40. I do everything possible to make sure I’m healthy and durable. It could be six or seven more years. Or it could be 12.”

Did he just cite Rich Hill, a guy who, until signing his first multi-year deal a few months ago, had signed 11 one-year contracts, as a reason he should be signed to a seven-year deal?

Yeah, I think he was just listing pitchers that have success in their upper 30's, but not the best example.
