Not great!

The Cubs should fire whoever talked to her from the team.

The Cubs' statement mentioned that both of them are gone already. I'm guessing not Theo or Scott Harris, as they're high enough profile they would have been named. But whoever it was had to be sufficiently high enough that you'd come to with a problem with one of Theo's lieutenants.

Didn't the Cubs' old PR guy have some contentious relationships with reporters around the time of the Russell stuff?

Based on the article it sounds like she is a Japanese reporter who was following the team. I wonder if she spoke with the team’s interpreter. Did we have a Japanese interpreter with the team in 2016?

Munenori Kawasaki was briefly on the team (which surprised me, I though he was just a ST guy), so that makes sense. Koji Uehara also signed over the 2016-2017 winter, so maybe his guy?

Around the convention week I was going to post in the Marquee thread how wild it was that they got their own network and couldn't put together something of a convention but I didn't care enough.

OK I am trying to catch up on the Cubs and maybe care about baseball again, so I actually read the ZIPS pre-season report and dang was that depressing.

Then I tried to read the latest Cubs news and apparently we actually let a player go to an arbitration trial, which is low-class and disappointing.

What is there to be excited about this year? Javy is always awesome. Hendricks are pretty cool. Kris Bryant is cool like half his seasons so maybe we get a good one. The division is full of turds and we might be king turd, I guess. Anything new to have fun with?

Edit: Oh wait I forgot we traded Darvish. Cross him off the list then.

There are some indications we're on the cutting edge of pitching design and development. So either that's true, which would be extremely horsefeathering fun, or we get a huge fire sale in July (which IMO is also pretty fun).

Oh and the minors are worth following again.

Unfortunately not true.

Hendricks are pretty cool.

This isn’t British baseball you wanker.

There’s a whole slew of new slappy out makers at the end of the bench, and Jason Heyward is probably due for another awful season. Plus they don’t have 5 starting pitchers in a season they’ll need about a dozen.

Ownership is saving on baseball ops expenses, so that has me super pumped, being the fan of financial statements that I am.

They wasted a lot of money on Trump, so...good?

screw off you pessimists and you doom boners

it's spring and the world is showing signs of not being a complete disaster within a relatively short time frame. now is the time for optimism.

KB, Javy, Rizzo and Willy are going to carry this team in the infield. they are all very good, so hopefully they can all be very good (and healthy) together again...which, yeah, it's been a while. nico will at least field his position really well and hopefully has some improvement in him at the plate. happ is going to continue to take off as a hitter, pederson is going to hit a bunch of dongs and field reasonably well, and heyward may or may not be a negative, but at least "may not" is realistically in play for once.

the starting pitching is going to be better than expected and the infield defense is going to be a big reason why. hendricks is hendricks. davies, jake, and williams will do a cromulent job of eating innings and keeping us in games. that dork mills is fine for a 5th starter too i guess.

alzolay and his new slider might sneak up on us and become awesome. i'm really excited to see if he can build on what he had going late last year.

we'll see about the bullpen but there were some good signs from kimbrel and overall there is some good and bad. hopefully it'll shake out to something competent.

at the very least, beating up on the pirates will be fun, but yeah let's go out and win 90+ in a crap division.

plus i want to see boog have at least one good season with this group of guys before everything inevitably goes to horsefeathers.

I’m actually fairly excited for this season. Since the expectations are lower, sucking won’t disappoint me as much and being great will exceed expectations and seem even more enjoyable. Kind of like how last year started with the 13-3 start until we realized that they actually kind of sucked and the offense fell apart for the final 6 weeks

I’m looking for surprise candidates out of the SP crew - hoping for a Trevor Williams rebound and a rejuvenated Jake for the first half.

Willy, Javy, Tony and KB need to lead the way, although I think KB is damaged goods mentally.
