I kind of wonder if it's Theo or San Diego for him

He already passed on San Diego.

sure, but that doesn't mean he would never go back. there are a lot of reasons it may not have been the right move at that time. then again, win a WS with the Cubs and he may jump on the first job that pops up

I mean, yeah...it just seems like, if it were a Theo or SD type of mindset for him, I can't see him withdrawing his name when the opportunity came up. I think it's more likely he just didn't think it was a good situation and doesn't want to go back there (especially given that he was already there and knows what ownership is like).

hypothetically speaking, if the NL got the DH next year, would you guys do something like (primarily) platoon soler and schwarber there and then play almora in CF with maybe gomez in LF?

it's a tough question to ask given fowler's likely exit and not knowing what we do there...

or do we just maximize dongage and start both schwarber and soler most of the time

If the NL got the DH next year, you'd probably see Almora in CF and Heyward in RF almost every day with Soler/Schwarber rotating between LF and DH. Obviously, they'd utilize the DH to get most of the regulars "semi-days off" but that would most likely be your "normal" arrangement. And the Cubs would love every minute of it.

yeah i mean

basically the only way i would think about wanting almora as a regular next year is if the NL got the DH...then I'd be OK with going for super defense in the OF. but that would mean mainly rotating schwarber and soler at DH and getting another OFer who can field into the mix (not that i wouldn't also want both soler and schwarb in the lineup at times too)

So game 1 of the Division Series is on a Friday. I'm assuming this means that it will be a day game?

i don't think the postseason is dictated by those rules, but i could be wrong

Not necessarily. Last year Game 1 was at, what, 5:30 ET? And that was a Friday as well.

Oh, I see what you mean - Wrigleyville. Yeah, I seriously doubt that will be a consideration.

That was in St. Louis.

I assume he's asking because of the night game restrictions at Wrigley.

There are no postseason night game restrictions at Wrigley. They've had Friday night postseason games there before, including Game 3 vs. the Braves when Prior beat Maddux in 2003. The only way it's not a night game is if TV wants it that way.

Yeah, I remembered that one. Just wasn't sure if it changed in all their haggling and back and forth with the city during the renovation stuff.

Still, like I said, I'm pretty sure you're right, and postseason is exempt.

Thanks. I'm thinking I'll still take the day off just in case.

Off the top of my head I am almost certain Game 3 of the 2003 NLDS against the Braves was on a Friday night. Also I'm pretty sure the ordinance that was approved places a limit on regular season night games and postseason/all star games are exempt.

Edit: Beaten on the 03 NLDS

I've been thinking about game times on Fri too.

Since there won't be a game played in pacific timezone the first two games of the DS (unless the Dodgers pass the Nats) and all four series start that day, I could see them doing something wacky like 2008 and have the Cubs start at like 8:30 local time.

They'll probably stick the non Red Sox ALDS at noon. Dodgers have a huge fan base but they play a team with like 10 fans, so I'd bet they get the other afternoon slot. That leaves the Red Sox and Cubs with one getting a 6ish start and the other after 8:00.

Oh, I see what you mean - Wrigleyville. Yeah, I seriously doubt that will be a consideration.

Last year was pretty unique in that the big markets during the DS were in the NL as the AL had Toronto, Texas, KC, and Houston. Of course, three of those markets are pretty big but don't attract the eyeballs of Chicago, NY, and LA.

This year will include Boston, so it's probable that they'll get night game preference with the likely wild card winner of Baltimore/Toronto.

For game 1, my guess is it depends on whether the dodgers pass the nationals - if they do, then it could be similar to last year and that the Cubs will be the early evening game.

Only the NL teams play on Saturday, so wouldn't the earliest game be about 5-6 CT? Then the second game like 7:30-8:30 CT?

that might be right. i'll take 5 pm, and hopefully it'll be an RD game by the time i have to walk in the doors.

I've gotta say, I'm pretty surprised to hear that you're choosing a Kanye concert over a Cubs playoff game David. Especially this Cubs team.

kanye concerts happen every few years. there will be many playoff games. especially silly division series ones.

made these plans and bought the tickets months ago and i'm not gonna bail on a group of 7 other people like some kind of weirdo because i have to watch a baseball game.
