Thanks to the bleachers being fully operational and the excitement after last year’s National League Championship Series, the Cubs have the second-biggest attendance increase in baseball at 6,915 per game through their first 15 home games, according to Baseball-Reference’s attendance tracker. The Cubs were averaging 37,734 fans per game going into Wednesday’s doubleheader at Wrigley Field. (All numbers are before Wednesday’s games.)

The Cubs are fifth in average attendance,

As for the Cubs, they’re up 30 percent compared to last year with a 4.3 Chicago market household average rating. Last year they finished with a 3.3 on the heels of their magical second half of the season. The Cubs are up 43 percent compared to this point last year, when they were doing a 3.0 average.

The Cubs aren't selling out consistently the year after winning 97 games and going to the NLCS, and after a huge offseason?

That surprises me.

Does anyone sell out consistently in April/May when the weather is really cold and lousy?

Lots of crappy weather and week games in April/May has a lot to do with it I'd imagine.

A part of it is awful weather and a bigger part of it, I think, is dynamic pricing (as fewer tickets are available, the price to buy them from the team goes up). It might cost them some sell outs but likely is still more profitable, assuming having a few less butts in the seats doesn't offset that with profits lost on concessions and crap.

Yep, people have kids in school still, and crappy weather....and I'm sure high ticket prices are also a factor.

Well, by comparison, the 2004 Cubs only had one game below 38k. The 2016 Cubs have already had 10.

Ticket prices is my first guess to explain the difference.

Did 2004 have unseasonably warm weather, more night games or more weekend games early in the season? It's probably a combination of a lot of variables including pricing and time of year.

I don't mean the 2004 Cubs only had one game below 38k *at this point*. I mean they only had one all year.

2004 didn't have dynamic pricing.

example...for friday's game, "face" value (what season ticket holders pay) for a terrace box infield seat is $64.96 (including amusement tax)...right now on Cubs.com, those are $74.00

a bleacher ticket for that game's face value is $40.32 ($36 + 12% amusement tax)...if you try to buy one on cubs.com right now it's $74.00.

this is the main reason..as supply goes down, prices are going up, and it's happening by section.

Well then, Clown Kenney must be up to his dastardly deeds once again

it's the damn dynamic pricing.

Another possible issue...ticket limits for the marquee/platinum games . My mom is gonna be in town for her birthday on June 18, so my family, My brother and his wife, and my mom were planning on going to a Cubs game. But with a ticket limit of 4, we ended up having to sit in two groups of 3 in different sections. We'll deal with it, but I gotta think that's a factor as well.
