[expletive] DH is dragging this team to its death

I know the Cubs hitters have been hitting well this year but going by career stats are the Cubs at an advantage with their pitchers hitting vs the rest of the NL's pitchers?

Generally it looks like Soler / Javy is the 9th man on this team. If we had a DH Javy would probably be in the field everyday with Soler DH'ing the most part.

Is Soler actually better than a significant amount of AL DH's? Until/If he turns it on, I doubt it. Obviously a big impact of a hypothetical NL DH is our defense night in night out would be even more sick with Javy playing every day and subtracting Soler out of the defense.

Also its a whole different story what a hypothetical Cubs DH would look like had Schwarber never been hurt this year.

Posted in today's game thread because there was some talk about epic win totals. But this spot is probably more appropriate.

What is the best 162 game stretch in history when taking into count multiple seasons?

I would assume it would be either the 1905-1906 Cubs, 1906-1907 Cubs since they won 116 in 152 games, so either taking the last 10 games of 1905 or the first 10 games of 1907 and combining that with the 116 wins of 1906?

Im sure the 98 Yankees coupled with the end of 97 had a crazy 162 game stretch considering they were 15-11 in September of 98 and still won 114. So they were obviously ahead of a 114 win pace most of that season.

What other teams had crazy 162 game stretches?

What is the Cubs record the past 162 games? I know they started getting hot around June/July of last year & i think were well over a 100 win pace the last couple months of the season to get to those 97 wins.

Between June 12, 1906 and June 26, 1907, the Cubs had a 162 game stretch where they went 127-32.

Not bad, I guess.

Uh that's 3 games short....

So the Cubs have the 5th best OPS in baseball, and are tied with the A's with the 9th most dongs (11 teams actually ahead of them). It's wonderfully terrifying they've been THIS amazing with their dong factor so much lower (for now) than what we were expecting, and minus Schwarber and (mostly) Heyward and their offense is likely going to get even BETTER.

Basically this season is going pretty damn great.

If the temp would ever get above 75 degrees this offense will begin the ritual blood sacrifices with great vengeance and furious anger

No, it isn't. There were ties back in the day that didn't count towards the standings.

Can't tell if that was an intentional set up for a Cruz-looks-like-Ricketts joke or not.

Judging by the rest of his tweets, it was legit confusion.

In fact, Sarah Spain replied that apparently Ricketts gets stopped in the airport regularly by people promising to vote for him.

What a god damn nightmare. Not just being stopped in airports, but being constantly reminded that people think you look like one of the most creepy, awkward people in America. Brutal.

Gotta admit, the first time I saw Ted Cruz I was like "Why is Tom Ricketts on Fox News right now?"

Same here. I was angry with myself for two reasons. 1. That I confused Ricketts and Cruz, and 2. That I watched enough Fox News to see that.

I know I had a discussion before the season about us getting off to a stupid hot start to the season, kinda like this, and how it would be so awesome if we could start off like 25-5 or something and be the Baseball Warriors. I don't remember if this was in real life or on here, though. I couldn't find anything after a cursory search, though. Does anyone remember us having that discussion?

Tom probably took it as a compliment.

The 2016 Cubs have now matched the 1907 Cubs for their start after 30 games at 24-6 (though the 1907 Cubs were in 2nd place at that point). There were only two Cub teams in history that started better than that, 25-5 in 1876 and 26-3 in 1880, both before baseball stats really should count.

So this is tied for the best Cub start in the World Series era.

The team the Cubs were behind at that point was the Giants and their high water mark was actually 24-3. They went 58-68 the rest of the way and finished in 4th place, 25.5 games out.

Cubs season OBPs

Fowler .462

LaStella .444

Szczur .441

Rizzo .413

Zobrist .406

Bryant .383

Russell .361

Baez .333

Ross .327

Heyward .317 (impressive since he's hitting like .200 with no pop)

Montero .316

Soler .274 ( :( )

League average OBP is .319 and only 12 teams in baseball have a higher team OBP than Montero. OK I cheated, there are 3 teams with a .317 OBP but close enough to Miggy.
