Unless we trade for a competitive balance pick, who cares? We won't be picking until like the 3rd or 4th round and our draft pool is really limited.

Some parralels to Underwood in his draft season, still my favorite non-Groome HS arm this year.

----

This doesn't matter at all for the Cubs, but Alec Hansen looks completely different this year in a good way. Could be the best college RHSP prospect since Cole in 2011.

That Lawson report did read like one of Underwood's then year Duane was drafted.

Your Hansen hyperbole seems extreme when you consider Alec didn't make it out of the second in his first start and only went 3 in his second start.

This year? How about the day after the draft?

Guess I missed this thread the first time around, but this, if at all.

The strength of this draft is high school pitchers," a National League scouting director said. "There are a whole lot of general managers who don't want to take high school pitchers early, but you have to adjust to the talent that's out there. The guys who are better at the Draft are the guys who know that."

Heh, the Cubs first draft pick is lower than the number of prospects listed in that top 100 (Cubs' first pick is 104th).

And everyone is gonna take HS pitchers and we'll still end up with one of the best college bats with our first pick somehow

The Cubs total draft pool is $2,245,100. Unsurprisingly, that's the smallest pool in the draft.

3. $573,900

4. $429,790

5. $321,800

6. $241,000

7. $186,000

8. $173,800

9. $162,300

10. $156,600

They'd never do this, but I wouldn't be totally against trying to pool those resources together for one or two semi-big moves, and filling in with senior signs. That said, I actually think this may oddly work out in some respects for us. No, we won't get a ton of high ceiling talent, but this feels like a deep college year, enough that I wonder if we may get a lot of solid guys to fill in gaps in the system, and there are definitely some gaps in the system.

I'm utterly stunned at how Matt Thaiss is now a first rounder in some mocks. I'm not that convinced he sticks behind the plate, and while his approach is great, is that really enough? He's got good power, but I question if it translates into plus.

Now, if he ends up sticking behind the plate, then fantastic.

Here's a profile of one of the arms, Nick Lodolo, I'm hoping is at least available at 104 on draft day. BA mocked Lawson 28 overall to the Nats. Looks like they're starting to catch onto Zach Collins. Blows my mind that it took so long considering what the Cubs have been able to do taking premium college offense up top and just the percentages in general. They currently have him 12th to the Red Sox, but stated he had helium in their comment for the Rockies in the top 5. Collins in Coors or Fenway would be a pretty sweet deal for him.

Collins is definitely a top 5 pick in this draft. Even if he can't catch, just like Schwarber.

And yeah, I think we'll see Collins go high as copycats will start emulating the Cubs recent draft strategy (and Conforto has done well for the Mets despite defensive questions too).

How are mocks looking right now?

No one mocks past the first round, let alone all the way down to 104, so there's not much out there about the Cubs.

I'm just a baseball fan.

Here's BA's most recent mock draft (John Manuel) and MLB.com's most recent top 10 (Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo). The top of the draft still isn't set and it sounds like Philadelphia is still considering Florida LHP AJ Puk, New Jersey prep LHP Jason Groome, Kansas prep RHP Riley Pint and Mercer OF Kyle Lewis.
