Due to NYE falling on Saturday this year, the playoff just announced that the two semifinals (Fiesta & Peach) will kick off at 3 & 7 p.m. ET instead of 4 & 8. Orange Bowl will move to Friday night, Dec. 30.

 

I liked the NYE/NYD tripleheader concept (although with NYD on Sunday those games are on Jan. 2 this year), so I'm not in love with this. Also not crazy about how this will inevitably embolden the people who spent the last year whining about the NYE games, which I got sick of very very quickly.

The NYE games, especially at night, are completely stupid. Not sure why you don't see that. People are busy on NYE, getting ready and going out to eat or going to parties all night, whatever. The ratings reflect that.

It just strikes me as #firstworldproblems complaining. People bitch up a storm that college football games aren't scheduled at the most convenient possible time, but don't care that the title game ends past midnight on a Monday, killing kids' ability to see the game. Not that I'm doing a "but think of the children!" thing, but the point is there was no perfect way to schedule those games, at least not once the SEC and Big 12 teamed up for their silly Sugar Bowl deal to lock in the NYD time slot.

There is too much money at stake for those playoff games to continue losing money just because the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl are stubborn. The NCAA or whoever is in charge of scheduling needs to tell those bowls to change their dates or to get bent and get left out.

I usually find college football offseason talk exhausting other than head coach changes, but Illinois just took Louisville's OC who turned down the same job at OK last year. This is crazy.

They're going to keep him on their team. You'll see. He was literally the only player worth a crap that they signed last year. I doubt the woman presses charges and I bet the local DA's office won't elect to prosecute their hometown hero. One would think that in today's culture, you don't survive a video getting out like that, but he will.

Their culture is that they never get 5 star players, and so they are circling the wagons on this one. It's sickening. "But...but...he apologized" or "it's just the culture he grew up in, these things happen all the time."

In other words, 5 seconds of video should never stop a 5 star from attending Mississippi State. Other activities one can accomplish in 5 seconds? One could stab a girl about 20 times or shoot about 25 people or blow up a bus..... What's 5 seconds between friends? It's a clever strategy for him though. Repeat over and over again something that has nothing to do with anything and also use benign words like "appropriate" repeatedly.
