golf is fun, golf rules are dumb, golf rule callers-in are pathetic lumps of rancid meat.

How do you get to a place in your life where you're watching a sporting event with the hope that you see somebody break a rule so you can snitch via telephone? Probably the same people that comment on youtube videos.

Especially because they call in the most innocuous things like a ball accidentally moving 1/4 of a revolution or Tiger dropping a foot or so from where he technically should've in the fairway. It's not like they are calling in catching Judge Smails kicking his ball 20 feet forward from out of the woods to the fairway.

Another argument against this is that tiger might hit 275 shots on national TV in a tournament. This level of scrutiny can't be evenly applied.

They need to add intent to the scorecard signing rule. They backed it down from DQ to 2 strokes. It should be nothing. Clearly that rule is designed to stop a golfer from cheating on his scorecard in the year 1895.

As for what if the LPGA thing happened in the men's game, I don't think anything is worse than the Dustin Johnson thing. Disrupting his round to tell him he might have been penalized but that they weren't sure, giving a rules guy an interview during the live broadcast, Etc.

Tiger was an outlier as far as that goes. He was a lightning rod for haters and bigots. The scrutiny on not Tiger Woods falls on whoever the leaders are so that mostly evens out. It doesn't change the fact that the rules are stupid and people calling in from home is even dumber.

This course is playing ridiculously easy right now, especially of a US Open course

It's too short. It needs to be windy and the greens need to dry out to be really challenging.

It's not short, it's just the greens like you mentioned. I don't think there's any forecast of a lot of wind to really get the greens dry and there's chance for some small showers/storms every day and night so they should stay pretty soft and easy. Basically if you are hitting fairways today and playing relatively decent you can put it within 15-20ft on every hole for birdie puts.

Typically, the USGA makes the shortest par 5 a par 4 which helps keep the scores up- which is what they want. Any links style course is going to look and play a lot easier with no wind.

holy horsefeathers man

Tiger Woods had Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in his system when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in May, according to a toxicology report released Monday.

In the market for a new 3 wood. Any recommendations?

I still like my Titleist 910, but it's probably time for me to upgrade there, too. I like the look of the Baffler 4-wood. I would try that one out. I've mostly subsituted my Cobra 2/3 hybrid (in 2-setting) for my 3-wood this season. I wish I could get a 1-hybrid.

I have an older model (from the 90s) King Cobra baffler 4 wood which I like a lot. I like it better than any of the rescue hybrids I've hit. Right now I have a burner bubble titanium 3 wood (also from the 90s) which I like but I wonder how long it will hold up. I bought an Aeroburner 5 Wood which I don't love. For whatever reason, the shaft feels a lot more stiff than any of my other woods. (insert joke here)

I got a Titleist 909 1 hybrid which I love, but in the same boat as you, it's time to upgrade. Not sure what I'm going to do as they don't make 1 hybrid anymore. I'll probably go to a strong 3 wood then a 2 utility iron in my next setup.

Biittner- It's hard to make recommendations for a club because look/feel/how you hit is different for everyone. You're better off going to like a golf store (if there's one near you) and hit a bunch of 3 wood (new and older used models) to see what you like and go from there.

Yeah, I know but if people feel really strongly either way about a club it does narrow things down. I usually hit a power fade with my driver and can occasionally hit a baby draw. I hit the ball pretty high which is part of my love hate relationship with the 5 wood. I got the HL shaft and they're not kidding when they say it goes high. Which is good on long Par 3s but less so from the fairway.

I've only hit Titleist clubs a couple times with mostly positive results.

It's the one club in my bag I never know what to expect on contact. Mine is a RocketBallz 3 wood. With all Taylor Mades other than 60 and 64 degree Cleveland wedges, I try not to make my bag look like a complete mish mash, but I've yet to find a Taylor Made 3 wood that I feel comfortable with.

Also, I immediately dismissed the idea of buying an adjustable loft driver as a dumb gimmick that couldn't possibly work. Was I wrong?

Almost every driver/wood is adjustable now it seems like. I think it's incredibly gimmicky in that it allows idiots who don't know what they are doing to keep changing it thinking that, that's the problem with their game, if you actually know what you are doing and a competitive golfer I get why you'd want the option to adjust it on the fly for course/weather conditions though. There is also a benefit for when you are being fit as a casual/non-compeittive golfer for your clubs by someone who knows what they are doing since they can adjust the loft and necessary things to fit your game/swing.

As for the 3 wood, I have the Titleist 915s (have had them since they came out) for my woods and would recommend those. I love them and have had no problems. A friend has the new 917s and they seem pretty slick as well. I should have a good 2 years left on my 915s (driver will be the first to go since it's the most hit) but I don't see myself changing from Titleist when the change has to come.
