Yup, the BFIBB stuff is why it's fun to ridicule for this sort of things. Lots of sports fans are terrible in general. Some of the stuff with Fukudome was bad and some of the reasons for a guy like Kowasaki being a fan favorite could be sketchy.

Kowasaki would be a likable goofball even if he he spoke perfect English. I you think his fandom is sketchy...well, I don't wanna be legit. Although I can understand the sensitivity after some of the Fukudome stuff, who was not a cuddly underdog weirdo.

I don't think it's really malicious or anything and Kawasaki is a goofball I just think there could be some sketchiness there considering there could be some people going "hey, let's root for this goofy foreign guy because of his goofy foreignness or something" I don't know. It's in kind of a gray area on the offensiveness scale I guess.

FWIW, in the comment thread for this story on Reddit a Cardinals fan claims it did, in fact, happen.

i was at the game last night - I watched one cardinals fan absolutely dismantle another cards fan for yelling it and the guy ended up leaving because he was so embarassed. he was looking around for approval and literally every person in the section just gave him a dirty look.

Saw another cards fan giving a cubs fan horsefeathers way past minor ribbing and an usher made the cards fan sit down, then when he started up again the people around him were booing(mix of cards and cubs fans)

I was talking with a cubs fan telling him that heyward was going to be a great guy for their city and team and that the reason i think everyone booed him was because they were so sad to see him go. it felt personal because it was the cubs. there was a great amount of respect between the majority of the fans at the game.

a vocal minority of cardinals fans(like the BFIB twitter) are the ones who are still walking around talking like neanderthals and being bigots. please stop thinking they represent the majority of the fanbase because they do not. we just want to enjoy baseball and we're mostly sick of this extraneous horsefeathers like the Cardinal Way and all that nonsense that gets lumped on us.

It is, however, a commenter on the internet, so take it at face value.

Reading CardsTalk discussing the slurs report. One person says that stuff doesn't happen at Royals games. A poster then replies asking how many "colored ball players" the Royals have.

http://interact.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1171605&start=24

That's funny and horrifying at the same time.

It gets worse. The same poster goes on to name one African-American on the Royals, Lorenzo Cain, as an example. Of course, the Royals also have Jarrod Dyson and Terrence Gore. His "thinking" is completely non-sensical.

The next level of absurdity in this poster's "reasoning" is apparently that if a team has African-American players on it, you're more likely to hear a racial slur coming from it's fans. Saying that the reason "you don't hear that stuff at Royals games" is because and "they don't have enough coffee to go with their cream". Is this Cardinals fan aware that the Cardinals currently don't have any African-American players on their roster?

The whole thing is absurd. Racism exists everywhere and that should come as no surprise in this country.

Did you take that at the game tonight?

Send that [expletive] to everyone and get it published. Deadspin at the very least.

Seriously ill give you until 11 PM CT to send those to deadspin and then inform NSBB that you've done this or I'm doing it myself. That horsefeathers is going viral

let's also note that the crowd was enthusiastically doing the wave during the 8th inning of a 1-run ballgame against their biggest rivals, a team which is also the favorite to win the same division that the cards are in.

Len said during the game last night that one of Seung-Hwan Oh's nicknames is "Final Boss". Man that is a horsefeathering cool nickname.

i just wish there were some kind of indicator in it that it's from tonight to make it seem more relevant

Well, Bull said he was going to the game and he's the one that first posted it.

No, I know...that's why I wish it had a Cubs Heyward jersey or Zobrist or something in the background as proof that it was recent for its ascent through the internet

I assume that cards fan has other plans for April 20 that interfere with going to today's game.

And it doesn't involve smoking pot
