So apparently the 4th official said something racist to Demba Ba in the PSG-Basaksehir game and both teams walked off.

EDIT, sounds like it was said to an assistant coach, not Ba

Correct. the official was pointing out who should get the red card and used an offensive term. https://www.espn.com/soccer/paris-saint-germain/story/4256997/psg-vs-istanbul-basaksehir-abandoned-due-to-alleged-racism

Ole better hope his team shows up this weekend otherwise he might be out of a job in a week.

They easily could have won this group after beating PSG in Paris and hammering Leipzig. At the very least, they should have advanced. Instead they’ll be in the Europa.

EDIT: Might have spoken too soon. It’s 3-2 now. ManU only needs a tie to advance.

They're the notre dame of soccer - always over-rated. They should have lost this game by 3 or 4. ManUs first goal was about the weakest penalty I have ever seen.

At halftime the ref must have seen Ronaldo's penalty and challenged himself to out-do it.

Ironically, it was Lahos - a Spanish ref (and likely the most egotistical ref in the world).

This headline is what I mean about Man U

"RB Leipzig shock Manchester United to eliminate them from Champions League"

I mean, who is shocked by this? Certainly no one that follows soccer. Leipzig drew with Bayern on the weekend but we're supposed to be shocked they beat mighty Man U?

I'm beginning to think that El Salvador is not the brilliant soccer team I thought they were

Technically the 6th ranked team in CONCACAF, ahead of Panama, Canada and T&T.

They did not look good at all yesterday, however, against the US B/C team.

They mentioned ES hadn't been together since last January and met at the airport for this game. Not sure how much time these US players had together either. The amount of time US players had to get shots off was a bit absurd though.

The US has an incredibly congested schedule next summer. Qualifying, Olympic qualifying, gold cup... every player on our roster had a ton to play for. Doubt that was true for ES.

This is a cool social media gimmick:

CONCACAF has updated the World Cup qualifying plan for 2022, and instead of a 6 team hex final round, it'll instead include an 8 team double round robin, including the 5 top rated teams in CONCACAF (Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica) along with 3 playoff winners among 6 5-team first round groups. Here are the first round groups:

- Group A: El Salvador, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Montserrat, US Virgin Islands

- Group B: Canada, Suriname, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Aruba

- Group C: Curacao, Guatemala, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba, British Virgin Islands

- Group D: Panama, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Dominica, Anguilla

- Group E: Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, St Lucia, Turks and Caicos

- Group F: Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Puerto Rico, Bahamas

The USMNT qualifying schedule will be as follows:

So that first game will be a projected road match against the winner of the Group A/F playoff, which could very well be T&T.

The US would do itself a huge favor by taking care of business in those early games. They should be favorites in the first 11 (maybe no Mexico). While likely some hiccups on the road, they should be somewhere in the 25-30 point range at a minimum and hopefully can clinch on not have to call in their top European players for the late games.

His finishing is lethal. Considering that’s usually the last skill an elite, world class player refines, we’re in for something special. At this point, physical maturity alone would make him world class. If he keeps sharpening these final ball skills in passing and finishing, this is a Real Madrid starter type player for the next 12 years.

I don’t know if you guys saw his essay in the player’s tribune about his late brother (tons of parallels to Clint Dempsey’s late sister), but he seems like a special dude with healthy priorities:

It must be horsefeathering annoying being an FC Dallas supporter.

Your senior team is perennially mediocre and yet you develop youth players that go to giant clubs once a year. You get to watch McKennie & Richards in the champions league but never for your club. It makes a ton of sense that the Dallas metroplex is a hotbed of elite soccer talent, but this is why I’m not as high on Pomykal & Ferreira btw. If they were elite prospects, they would’ve been sold a while ago. They might still be good and take the Reggie Cannon path to Europe/the national team, but they’re probably not elite.

Dallas would be challenging for trophies all the time if their scouting was half as good as their academy and youth development. Can't get an actually good DP to save their lives.

I agree that Ferreira is probably a tweener and feels more like a guy with a successful MLS career. Pomykal though, reading between the lines he might be in Germany already if not for his injuries. Those remain a concern but I think his quality is there.
