Looots of real estate available in that Canadian midfield. I think if Belgium weathers the early adrenaline storm, their possession will unlock that space and turn the game downhill in their direction.

Lucky they're in a weak group with fellow decrepit old men Croatia. KDB seemed to always be wondering why his teammates weren't where they were supposed to be (though it was shocking he didn't play to Tielemanns on that first half break)

 

Canada probably just blew their chances of advancing. They lack quality up front and Davies did not seem right. They can play a similar style against Croatia but now will need a win.

Did you watch it? I don't remember Courtois doing anything special. The PK was an easy save and a couple others were also pretty weak efforts. I don't think xG/G necessarily equates to keeper play.

I mean, he only made three saves. One was the penalty, one was a weak header that he "dove" for but really was pretty routine. Not sure what the third was - just saying maybe God status is a bit of an over-statement.

I'm mostly with stitchface, the non-PK saves were routine, and the xG is a function of missed opportunities for Canada that they couldn't turn into goal-bound shots. That said, he still saved them 2 points because even though the PK wasn't well taken it's still a great play to choose right and get down on that shot.

KDB looked thourougly confused at being named MOTM after that game - he knows he didn't play well, so he put it down to "just the name" (I've no idea how the MOTM is chosen)
