Has anyone watched any PSG outside of the UCL this year? Messi has 2 goals in 18 league games this year. How is that possible? I mean, I get he's on a new team in a new league but he's also got more talent around him than the last year or two at Barca and the league is weaker. Only two goals is abusrd.

I have not watched PSG outside of the RM debacle (both games). General observation is their midfield isn't very good. Messi is still capable of moments of magic but he is not the transition player he used to be (and Neymar was terrible). Like Ronaldo, he can finish, but he can't do it on his own any more.

Also, I will say that goal scoring is not the best metric. Remember Kane's start to the season? Prior to this weekend, Ronaldo had 1 in 10 games for United.

I also haven't watched any Ligue 1 this year, but numerically it seems like they're just having Messi serve as a string puller more than a finisher. In 3000 minutes last year he had 27 non-penalty goals and 9 assists for Barca. This year in under 1500 minutes he has 2 non-penalty goals and 10 assists. Given that PSG won the title in October they were clearly adjusting workloads for older players like Messi to optimize for Champions League(hence the 1500 mins). Last year he scored 1 non-penalty goal and had 2 assists in 540 CL minutes. This year, 3 non-penalty goals and no assists in 630 CL minutes.

He didn't have much help with Barca last year and was the center of the attack - totally different role with PSG.

Speaking of Barca, I've always been skeptical of how much difference coaches make but wow, Xavi. It's like a new team - fun to watch again!

could've gone in the ricketts family sucks ass thread but i'm putting it here:

Chicago Cubs owners and Citadel chief Ken Griffin join forces for Chelsea bid

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has since indicated that licence would likely extend to granting a sale of the club were an application to be made. A preferred bidder has to be identified first. The Ricketts' family have teamed up with billionaire hedge fund tycoon Ken Griffin and declared their intention to enter the running.

"The Ricketts Family, owners of the Chicago Cubs, can confirm they will be leading an investment group that will make a formal bid for Chelsea Football Club this Friday," a spokesman said.

"As long-time operators of an iconic professional sports team, the Ricketts Family and their partners understand the importance of investing for success on the pitch, while respecting the traditions of the club, the fans and the community.

"We look forward to sharing further details of our plans in due course."

NUCFC held on (barely) to advance to the CCL semis. Three other second legs today and tomorrow between MLS teams and Liga MX teams. How many MLS teams advance?

Funds being frozen have hit Chelsea so hard they have to use old Borussia Dortmund kits.

I'm sure PTR will spring for new kits

They let Saudi Arabia buy Newcastle. I’m not sure they’ll care about what old racist Ricketts said.

What’s to think about? They’ll let anyone buy a team. Doesn’t matter if they’re kind of racist or murder people. All that matters is if you have the money.

Two good CCL home legs for Seattle (3-0) and NYC (3-1). Both have to advance after those showings, which would guarantee one of them in the finals this year.

Today New England beat UNAM 3-0, which means that's 3 MLS teams with 3 goals each in the first legs of their quarterfinals. I can't wait to see how they blow this.

Well one did blow it and a second tried to. Third team still to play.

His (correct) point is that with such a deeply influential muslim ownership and corporate sponsor contingent in the PL, public Islamophobes will not be welcomed by the other owners and could easily hurt their bid.

I stand by what I said. Could it affect their bid? I suppose a little bit. But it’s not going to be a dealbreaker. If they don’t get it, it will be because they didn’t offer enough money.

2 out of 3 isn't a complete disaster, but wow the Revs blew a golden opportunity to nearly assure an MLS champ. Instead, the CCL semis will be NYCFC v Seattle and UNAM vs Cruz Azul. One Liga MX team and one MLS team will be in the finals.
