I'm going to preface this by saying in no way at all do I feel bad for City...

That being said, the fallout from this could affect them for more than just the two years they're out of the UCL (assuming the ban doesn't get reduced).

Beyond that, it is going to be a mighty financial blow to the club. Apart from the €30m ($32.5m) fine, they'll be without Champions League revenue for two seasons. That always depends on how far they advance, of course, but considering they made €93m ($100m) last season and prize money has gone up, you'd imagine it will be around $200m or more. Throw in the loss of gate receipts and reduced exposure hurting sponsorship deals (some contracts automatically get reduced if you don't qualify for the Champions League) and the total could easily be north of $300m. That's more than 25 percent of what the club's likely revenue is going to be across those two seasons.

But it doesn't end there. If you're making 25 percent less money, you will need to cut costs accordingly. And that might mean sacrificing some players. Then there's the evident fact that some players may wish to move because they don't want to go two years without Champions League football. That applies to the manager, Pep Guardiola, as well. He talked this week about how badly he wants to win his third Champions League.

Lmao England is trying to poach Gio Reyna. He was born in England when Claudio played for Sunderland.

BOTH his parents repped the US at the senior level. There's no way he switches.

Right?

i cant imagine a 17 yo american legacy committing to england with their depth when he could theoretically star in 4 cups for the US

The heat on that story is all coming out of England. American journos have since done a modicum of due diligence and pointed out he isn't eligible for UK citizenship even though he was born there. He is only eligible to rep the US and Portugal and has no desire to rep anyone other than the US.

Also, when Pulisic was bought by Chelsea last year, I decided that I would try and follow european soccer this year and holy horsefeathers have I gone down the rabbit hole. I'm leaving work early to watch champions league games, I'm plotting out results to see how likely chelsea is to stay top 4, im reading the musings of incredibly sad people on reddit. Top stuff (im saying top stuff now)

hahaha - it happens so easily. I also enjoy laughable english headlines like "can leipzig upset Spurs?" or "Lampard: Chelsea is underdog against Bayern Munich." - you think? The English remain so arrogant.

Champions league games conveniently start at noon here in California . . .

I saw the Chelsea headline but hadn’t seen the Spurs one. That’s hilarious.

Bayern are insane. Every chance they create is somehow a good one. Obviously chelsea's piss poor back four helps with that but they didn't create a shot all game that wasn't a good one

Chelsea played right into Bayern's strengths, too. They are so good, fast, and organized on the break and Lampard asking his back 4 to keep a high line against Bayern's wings while Chelsea's midfield gave it away so easily all day was a recipe for getting run out the gym.

I didn’t think they’d actually do it but I was starting to entertain the idea that Liverpool could actually go undefeated this year. But I didn’t think the first loss would be to Watford by 3 goals.
