10 or an 8. Typical situation where he's always by far the best guy on his team so he roams wherever he gets the ball the most, but a pro club will force him to settle into a natural position. He's basically on track to be a more athletic, more refined version of his dad, which is pretty freaking good.

So far he's been pretty advanced up the field on the ball in his time with the Dortmund first team. More of a 10/inverted winger like Favre likes to do with Sancho/Pulisic.

I'm liking the young depth that's building up with the youth for Berhalter's center midfield pairing. Even setting aside if it's Pulisic's best position(I've seen good arguments both ways), McKennie, Pomykal, Reyna, and Ledezma have some serious upside, to say nothing of Holmes and Mendez(who is no upside slouch himself).

Jill Ellis, the coach of the US Women's National Team who led the team to back-to-back FIFA Women's World Cup titles, is stepping down in early October, US Soccer announced Tuesday.

It sure seems like every U-20 cycle since Ramos took over is producing 2-3 potential stars and another 2-3 solid pros every cycle, which is the way it should be but hasn't really ever been for the US. This is a great run down of the fringe national team prospects: https://theathletic.com/1106395/2019/07/30/parchman-nine-gold-cup-absentees-who-could-be-usmnt-regulars-by-2022/

Pulisic is going to absolutely star in Lampard's system. His ability to run in space, progress possession with the ball at his feet, and finish in transition is going to be a perfect fit.

Mendez is going to Ajax and Gloster to PSV. Netherlands is the new Germany.

I'm definitely biased, but it sure seems like Christian Pulisic is the best attacker on Chelsea's entire roster and it's not that close. They must've been REALLY reliant on Hazard last year.

Pedro is a pretty good player also but that Man U game really revealed their lack of forward threat. Did you watch yesterday's game? Sounds like they were better.

Yeah, and he has great chemistry with Kante already, was the best at transitioning possession up the field with the ball at his feet, made more dangerous runs than anyone, and made more key passes than anyone.

Kante was the big difference from the United game, but CP having more of the ball was the second biggest.

VAR ... Great invention or greatest invention?

In all seriousness, I hate the new handball rule. It was an accidental handball. I know City benefited from it, but the goal wasn't scored directly from the handball. I didn't like the handball call in the UCL final and I don't like this one. Are they going to give PK's every time a defender touches the ball with his hand in the box? Because it only seems fair to do that if you're going to disallow goals for stuff like this.

As for City, not only do they get denied by VAR again in extra time against Spurs, but the handball rule that's in place now would have overturned Spurs's winning goal in the UCL quarters last year because it went in off Llorente's arm.

My hot take is that I’d rather have a handball rule that is consistent even if it leads to harsh/unlucky outcomes than to have to deal with measuring intent and how inconsistent that would be applied.

But how far back do we go in the play? Is it only the guy who scores or sets up the goal? What about the guy who passes to the guy who sets up the goal? What if a guy wins a ball at midfield with his arm and dribbles all the way up the field before passing the ball to the guy who scored?Wherever you cut off the line, it’s going to be arbitrary. I don’t think this rule makes it any more clear cut than it was before.

yea, it's not remotely consistent. if a defender accidentally arms a ball down and clears it, that has to be a penalty under this rule. otherwise, there is no consistency whatsoever. and the "high bar" for obvious errors is idiotic. I love how the PL has the arrogance to act as if they are the first league to have VAR instead of recognizing they are way behind the curve.

The Netherlands didn't call Ajax left back, Sergino Dest, up to their last roster and a bunch of fans online were very bummed. Thought he was a big snub. Koeman said it's because he's not a realistic get for them.

Lo and behold he's on our roster for the upcoming friendlies. Also Pomykal got the call up from FC Dallas and for those of you who aren't MLS followers, he's absolutely a Pulisic/Adams/McKennie level prospect imo.

DEFENDERS: John Brooks (Wolfsburg; 37/3), Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas; 6/0), Sergiño Dest (Ajax; 0/0), Nick Lima (San Jose Earthquakes; 7/0), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls; 11/2), Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact; 8/0),) Tim Ream (Fulham; 35/1), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United FC; 0/0), Walker Zimmerman (LAFC; 10/2)

MIDFIELDERS: Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy; 9/2), Weston McKennie (Schalke; 14/3), Alfredo Morales (Fortuna Düsseldorf; 13/0), Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas; 0/0), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders FC; 15/0), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC; 19/0), Jackson Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes; 1/0)

FORWARDS: Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake; 3/0), Tyler Boyd (Besiktas; 5/2), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC; 33/5), Christian Pulisic (Chelsea; 31/13), Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen; 7/2), Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew SC; 51/10)

Regardless of the results they achieve, that's by miles the most talent we've ever put on the field together.

But as Mexico, England, et al have shown forever and ever, it's really hard to get past the round of 16, regardless of talent.

I’m still annoyed they gave teams to Cincinnati and St Louis first .

why?

Because I don’t like those cities.

And no one likes Sacramento, so.....lose lose lose

Cool. I'm glad you felt the need to jump into a thread about a sport you don't care about to defend St. Louis and Cincinnati.
